I really like the cookbook! The baked oatmeal and ramen salad are absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to make more recipes from this book.

I actually read the entire cookbook even though I have a severe case of lactose intolerance and cannot eat over half ofnthe recipes. It was funny and easy to follow.

As an admittedly huge fan of John Legend, and by extension, his lovely wife, I was really excited about this. But it was even better than expected because the recipes are written with funny honesty (like when she tells you straight up that most of the vegetables and tuna are better from a can or frozen for the sake of the recipes). I also like how the recipes are super easy and all of them have accompanying pictures. That's my biggest cookbook pet peeve - not having pictures. But these photos are even better, because they show the food as well as the glamorous lives of Chrissy, John, and their cute pup. Another highlight of this book is that even though these recipes are not supposed to be healthy, and they're specifically for when she is not dieting for Sports Illustrated, most of them could easily be prepared in a healthier manner with substitutions that I usually have readily available.

I really only found one or two recipes I'd want to try in this cookbook. Most of them seemed very unhealthy.

Chrissy Teigen might be a hot mess. On publishing this cookbook she accidentally put her cell phone number in it and didn't realize it until hundreds of calls later. She seems to know how to laugh things off and she is extremely likeable in this cookbook. I wasn't a hundred percent sure who she was until I got this book but I'm on the liking her side of the fence. Shut up haters.

She takes her love of cooking and eating and even though she is hawt still manages to be someone you want to hang out with. One story she told about starting to put up food pics on Instagram and the guys just telling her to show more TITTAYYYY cracks me up.

Anyways the food...glorious food. Teigen admits to loving food and eating it. Sometimes your pajamas and Netflix with a big plate of carbs are just needed. Case in points include: French Toast Casserole with Salted Frosted Flakes. *flails*

Looky at the pretty pictures too.

ETA: I made a couple of these recipes. The Tuna Casserole with Jalapeno chips, I did cut back on the amount of cheese. It asked for 3 cups of cheddar cheese in just the bottom layer..I only used two and didn't add any to the topping like the recipe called for. It was good but extremely rich tasting. I also made her Garlicy Cheese bread and cut the amount of ingredients in third and still had too much topping. The flavors were good though.

3.5 star, I guess?

I was interested in this cookbook because I tried her Jok Moo (Thai Pork and Rice Porridge) recipe that had been shared on a blog, and (with my own modifications) now make it every week or so to keep in the fridge for a quick breakfast.

I thought, if that one recipe is so good, how many other amazing recipes are in this book???

And I'm sure that objectively there are a ton of amazing recipes, but nearly everything else in this book is either made from ingredients I don't usually have on hand (not anything fancy, just that I don't usually buy cuts of meat any more expensive than pork shoulder and ground beef) or is a recipe I already have my version of perfected (mac and cheese, for example).

I did make her Tuna Melt sandwich just to try something simple and see how it was, and the results were... confusing. It tasted great, no complaints there. But I'm a HUGE mayo fan, and the amount of mayo was the maximum I could possibly still enjoy before it just got weird. And the amount of tuna I was supposed to fit on the bread... maybe it's because I was using homemade bread that was a bit smaller, but I didn't even try to use all the filling and it was still falling out the sides as I cooked it. (I appreciate the attitude toward maximum filling, it's just more the results I expect from my own impromptu enthusiasm than from a tested recipe.)

Overall, I did really enjoy the lighthearted tone of of the book and funny explanations of recipes. Though I also found it disturbing to read her off hand comments about times she was essentially starving herself in preparation for a modeling gig.

So yeah.. TLDR, I appreciate the enthusiasm and humor, and the recipes seem good on flavor, but most of them are not useful for me.
