Lily Mayne must have put drugs in this book series because it is impossible to put down! Each book I finish, i’m in tears by the end because the couple is literally E V E R Y T H I N G. 😭🥺
On to the next I go! 👬😈💞

This was good! The author does have this sort of crutch where they say "[monster] looks just like [creature from our world I can Google]." I refuse to believe I'm the apocalypse that everyone would remember these specific species names.
Wow Lily! You gave me all the feels with this one!
Aury and Gage
This reminded me a lot of JR Ward's brotherhood book - the one where one of the Brothers turns into a mini Godzilla. Same vibe - a monster that adored you - who could ask for more?
I felt for Ghost - anxiety, imposter syndrome, etc and Anchor's actions really upset me. I adored Rig, Lilac and the chickens and basically devoured this book in one sitting. Can't wait for more!

The friendship between Rig and Ghost was sweet and comforting while ghosts relationship with Aury made me cry halfway though. Honestly I'm going to be so sad when this series ends.
I do wish that Goodreads had a .5 rating because I did like this book. I just did not like it nearly as much as Lily Mayne's other books. I think this is more of a preference of the relationship dynamic.
To prevent myself from repeating what I've said in other reviews too much, I'm gonna try to keep newer thoughts in the reviews from now on.
In this book, we kind of see how raiders live. It was a nice change of pace after the previous two books covered mostly the military. The raiders in this novel are mostly secular but we do get to see a few different types of raiders.
I enjoyed learning more about the Rycke after hearing about them so much in the previous two books. The concept is really interesting. Wyn and Edin talk about the Rycke but Aury is definitely different from what I was expecting!
We get introduced some new characters that will be important down the line. I really liked them! Rig and Ghost's relationship is really cute and funny. Moth seems very interesting. We don't see any of the other characters in this particular entry but that was fine.
Aury and Ghost's relationship is very comforting. Ghost is anxiety ridden and Aury has PTSD. When they see the other in trouble, they're able to rise to the challenge and put aside their problems for a moment.
I felt like the attraction in this book was a bit smoother comparatively to the last two books. Where the last two books was blurting out, I AM ATTRACTED TO YOU, this one is a lot of longing glances between the two of them. It feels more natural.
I'm a bit fan of the touch him and you die trope so that's always fun. It was very intriguing how this trope was handled though. This isn't until the latter I wanna say 70% of the book?
Out of the whole series, this one is the most skippable to be honest but I still wouldn't recommend skipping it. It's a solid entry in its own right.

✔️ Reading to each other??? So soft.
✔️ Holding hands literally 24/7? Soft.
✔️ Only using Ghost’s real name in private? Soft.
✔️ Sitting on the ground with “the girls”? Soooooft.
✔️ Ghost calming Aury down when he turned? So fucking soft.
✔️ Wiping out an entire camp because they punched his man? Okay … not soft, but damn. 🔥 🔥 🔥
I loved Aury so much, and he was just the perfect companion to anxiety-ridden Gage. They were so cute holed up together (fellow introverts, unite!) and I appreciate that they built a relationship before they became intimate. That first kiss + sex scene though … holy shiiiiit. 🥵🥵🥵🥵 Also thank heavens for vers boys. I missed that with Edin + Hunter.
I also loved Ghost and Rig’s friendship. The whole camp was such a sweet (and soft) family unit. I sobbed over the wooden carving. 😭😭😭
Anyway, 4.5 stars for this one. May need to take a break from bingeing this series and read something fluffy. 🤣
