The love interests here were teed up
very well and, as usual with Kaplan’s writing, the characters and situations were quite funny.

The plot resolution felt rather quick and a bit implausible, but it worked just fine.

fast and lighthearted read with a decent cast of characters

**An ARC provided by Ylva-Publishing in exchange for an honest review**

While I wasn't a huge fan of the first book in this series, I really wanted to give this series another shot in hopes of it improving. Unfortunately, for me, it didn't; it just got worse. I just couldn't connect to the characters, and that is a huge drawback for me in any book I read; that and the lack of chemistry I felt of the characters themselves. Too much rambling between the characters that just seemed to have no point in moving the story along. I'm not a fan of constant small talk filler, so another star gone. While I enjoyed Elizabeth the little bit that she was in the first book, I just couldn't come to like her as a lead main character. Also really not a fan of overly crass words during sexual scenes or any other; it just super annoys me and turns me off really quick from a book all together. I looked past it in the first book but I just couldn't again. To each their own, but definitely a no go for me.

For the first 1/2 of this book I struggled. Kaplan got a few chuckles out of me but I had to stop and make sure this book was labeled romance. Looked the book up and yes, it was a romance… I just wasn't sure where the romance was happening. Did I miss it? Around 60% the book began to get better. The final 25% was actually really good. I enjoyed the writing, I enjoyed the story and would have given the final 35% 4 stars without issue. It was the first bit I struggled with. I wanted to quit, but after hitting 40% I was arguing with myself I had read this far I should just finish. I am really happy I did because I enjoyed the ending. I think this author is funny… I would probably think she was hilarious if we were actually friends. Reading her humor is harder. For me reading most humor is harder than having it delivered to your face. Writing humor is difficult, because often delivery is everything. I do think the author and I have a different sense of humor which may make this book more of an acquired taste for some. I also didn't get a single reference in the book. I have never seen any of the movies mentioned (including any Indiana Jones movies), I knew very few of the singers mentioned, and I have zero fashion knowledge. I wasn't a fan of the first book in this series, and I feel this one was better. I am just conflicted on how to rate the book. I am going to rate 3 stars, which is the same as I rated the first in this series, but note I enjoyed this one a lot more. However, I do not feel for me it was a 4 star book. I could easily see this being exactly the right book for some. If you have enjoyed books by this author before I am sure this is one you will enjoy.

The beginning was a bit of a mess. I couldn’t keep track of which character was speaking. It was all jumbled. Pushing through to see if it gets any better. It didn’t, it’s all over place and never really kept my attention. This wasn’t the story that I’d hope for it to be.

Georgette Kaplan is such a talented writer. She writes with such a smart and witty sense of humor and makes it seem absolutely effortless. Her story makes for very unique characters that are self-deprecating and relatable.

The three star rating seems misleading, but it means "I liked it" so it in no way is a poor review.

This is a follow-up to her novel Scissor Link and it should probably be read in that order since we are introduced to the main character, Elizabeth in that novel. She also receives enough attention in that first book to really establish her character.

Elizabeth is still hung up on her unrequited college love and when Michelle reenters her life ten years later, she embarks on an escapade in the hope that Michelle will come to realize that Elizabeth is her true love. This was my main problem with the book. Michelle is not a likable character, at all. For me she was so unlikable that it colored my opinion of Elizabeth to some degree. I kept asking myself, “When is Elizabeth going to come to her senses?”

The story is told from Elizabeth’s point of view. She has a cynical worldview, but doesn’t take herself too seriously. A large portion of the book takes place over the Christmas holiday with Michelle’s family. This section of the book was problematic for me because some of the situations and banter bordered on slapstick comedy. Having said that, Kaplan’s writing and social commentary kept me smiling the whole time. It was a little hard for me to buy the happily ever after as it came so fast with no build up (yet I saw it well before it happened).

This book was not as good as Scissor Link, but Kaplan’s writing is still top notch, which makes up for some of the problems I had with the plot.

I was given an ARC of this book in return for a fair and honest review.

Face It follows Elizabeth and her old college roommate Michelle. Elizabeth and Michelle hooked up one night in college and ever since Elizabeth has not been able to forget about her. After ten years, the two reunite and Michelle asks Elizabeth to be her fake girlfriend and go to her family’s house for Christmas. During Christmas Elizabeth gets to know Michelle’s family better than she expected to.

I have to admit that I was not the biggest fan of this book. I did really enjoy Michelle’s family and the humor throughout. But, I did not care about any of the characters which made it hard to really engage with them and the story. I also wish the romance would’ve been more present. I felt that the focus was on too many people at once. Face It is still a good book and if you are looking for something quick and funny then I do recommend it.
