this one was quite the ride; there were a couple twists and turns to get to the final whodunnit, which was a good balance between unexpected and completely plausible.
More like 3.5 but rounding up for pure enjoyment. I rarely figure out the end of mysteries but I did with this one. It just seemed so obvious. But, that didn't stop me from continuing on and enjoying it. I really like damaged, tough Tessa. I would love to see even more of her.
Could not out this book down! Yet again, Lisa had you changing your "who dunnit" predictions to the very end! I was so shocked, but pleasantly surprised with all of the twists and turns. There has not been one book from Lisa that I haven't loved! No spoilers from me, just go read it! It will be "Touch and Go" because you will not get one ounce of sleep until the end!
More like 3.5 stars. I figured out the basic idea about halfway but the story so good I had to find out how it all fit together.
Tess Leoni, a widowed ex-Massachusetts State Policeman who now works for Corporate Investigations. She is called out to investigate the disappearance of all three members of a wealthy Back Bay family. The family has its issues; the father was recently caught in an affair, the mother coped by becoming addicted to Vicodin and the 15 year old daughter dealt with her parents dissolving marriage with her own hidden issues. The kidnapped family is being held in a mothballed NH prison by three ex-military kidnappers. The team assigned to find them is a joint task force from the FBI, Boston PD, NH Sheriff's Department and Corporate Investigations. The author does a good job of continuing to shift your attention towards different suspects, all the while giving you crumbs of information so you do not completely solve who is behind the kidnapping until the end of the book.
I love Lisa Gardner and most of her books are fabulous. This book is good and exciting, although parts of it seem to drag along. The ending is shocking and something that I did not expect. I think this is a book worth reading.
Loved the book, only wish I hadn’t been able to guess so soon!
Entertaining story with a twisted plot. The ending threw me for a loop.
A satisfying continuation of the Tessa Leoni series. Though I had figured out the major twist in the first third of the book, I still enjoyed the read and the development of the characters. Tessa is not as abrasive as DD Warren (another Gardner protagonist); I look forward to reading the next.
