The prose was beautiful and the voices stood out from each other. It gets you thinking.
The audiobook was narrated by different VCs, which added to the story nicely.

The writing is absolutely beautiful. How the main characters would weave together became obvious to me about three quarters of the way through (maybe I should have been more alert??? :-))

Long listed for this year's Man Booker Prize, this book has a structure that struck me as being somewhat similar to Richard Powers' The Overstory, also long listed for the prize. Ryan introduces different characters who are seemingly unconnected and have their own stories before a narrative that exposes the connections. This book is about a quarter of the length of Powers' epic and it has only the three main characters, but it's similarly accomplished. I really liked it and I'll be looking out for more by Ryan.

Could not decide whether to give this book one or two stars but decided to round up. I’ve been wanting to check out this author for a while now and unfortunately this is the book I picked up first.

This book read like a set of three short stories about sad men. The first section was…sad. The next two, however, made me want to punch a wall. The women in these sections are PAINFULLY one dimensional and only serve as a way to make the men in the book even sadder then they already are, whether they do it by dying horribly or dumping them. The thought processes the men have around the women are even more horrifying, and even scarier are probably pretty accurate. I truly have never wanted to be in the mind of a controlling sugar daddy and yes it was in fact as terrifying as I thought it would be.

I’ve decided the only thing I hate more than women written by men are men thinking about women written by men. Keep those thoughts to yourself and off my bookshelf pls and thank u. Im still willing to give all we shall know a try because the first section of this book held potential.

Finished reading From A Low And Quiet Sea by Donal Ryan, and fuck me if this isn't a Booker winner. Beautiful, moving, hilarious and intelligent. I loved the characters, so distinct from one another. There was even a cheeky Irish grandpa who reminded me of my cheeky Irish grandpa. And it had the best insult I've heard in a long while in said by the grandpa: cuntyballs. Gotta be a 5 stars, and I'm off to put a tenner on it.
