I immediately fell in love with this book. I fell in love with Freddie and Greg, Kay, Luke, Ginger, the whole lot. The best thing about this book is that everything happens, so nothing happens. Everything big happens, but Joelle winds it up in the midst of such small moments it doesn’t feel big. You don’t find out the big things have happened until someone is taking their dog for a walk, or turning down the radio to hear their spouse repeat themselves. It’s brilliant. It’s achingly beautiful. It only lost a star for me in the end because it wrapped everything up too quickly. I could’ve used another three chapters to make it match the pace of the rest of the novel.

This was beautifully written. I'm torn between being glad it was a short read and being upset that it wasn't longer. Longer would have made it so much sadder yet I felt like I was never able to really get invested in the characters. This provided a buffer but also made it a lot less meaningful.

I was hoping the character  would connect in a more meaningful way but I think the point of this book was about how tragedy and death affect so many people yet every person must still continue on with their lives.

Overall a good story with good writing but doesn't allow a deep connection with any characters.

Sooo good. I just devoured this book. It was exactly what I wanted to read. It almost read like interconnected short stories as the reader is given a peek into a large cast of characters centering on a New England town. It was sad and full of hope all at the same time. A celebration of life but not a looking away from the bad things. Rather saying despite or because of (?) the bad things life is worth living.

A Little Hope is the story of a small town and its inhabitants, whose lives are all touched by grief in some way. It jumps from character to character to show how everyone is dealing with their own battles: the loss of a child or a spouse, addiction, illness.

I enjoyed this setup with interconnected characters, but it fell short of my expectations. I had hoped there would be more of a climax bringing the many different characters together, but it just kind of faded out. Without this kind of payoff, A Little Hope just felt unnecessarily heavy. There was so much loss without enough redemption.

Hope (verb) to desire / consider possible. Hope for a new beginning, new life, happiness, acceptance, finding your way, redemption. Follow the lives of these neighbors and see who finds HOPE.
