idk it’s nothing special but it’s nice to now be an expert on all this and have the resource. plus the written-in notes are cool! but all the pre-tftsa simon comments keep throwing me off guard— like oh yeah you’re still a vampire sjdjsjs

I am honestly quite surprised to give this book five stars, but I cannot lie when I say that this book was surprisingly enjoyable. It was great to get a more in depth look into the Shadowhunters world and the concept of this book with the annotations from the characters from the series (Clary, Jace and Simon) was really clever and enjoyable. These comments were often hilarious and the art in this book was gorgeous as well!

I was so happy when I saw that my library had this book. I really wanted to read it but never had any money to buy it. Most of the time, I didn't care about what the Codex was saying. I was very amused by Simon, Jace, and Clary writings all over it. I could totally see them saying all the things they wrote. I also really liked all the drawings. The information in the book was cool, but like I said earlier, I liked what the characters had to say better.

Assolutamente stupendo, come il resto della saga.
ho riempito il mio telefono di foto delle pagine di questo libro.Ho fotografato gran parte dei giuramenti,ed anche alcuni commenti di Jace!

Really helpful reading at this point because I'd forgotten a tonne of stuff about this world.

Despite this book only being a guide rather than story, I personally loved the Codex for the detail about the world that it lends to its readers.

The Shadowhunter's Codex is a short, fun addition to the series that pulls back the curtain and details things about the history of the Shadow World that has only ever been hinted it at in the main roster of books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles so far. It offers tales of Johnathan Shadowhunter - The first of the Shadowhunters that has been name dropped within TMI and TID, as well as the origins of institutes and locations such as the Silent City and the Adamant Citadel; home to the Silent Brothers and Iron Sisters.

As well as offering insight into the history of the Shadowhunters, it also offers a closer look at the history of the Down-world and lists details of the various types of creatures within the Shadow World. Warlocks, Vampires, Werewolves, Fey and also tells us of the Accords and how they were first established.
The Codex also lists the different types of Demons and weaponry/combat methods that are used against the demonic creatures the exist in the world that Cassandra Clare as detailed down to the last T.

The annotations by Clary, Jace and Simon are also a really fun addition to the book as it gives the book a more personal feel and makes it feel a lot more familiar to the reader. Also the illustrations in the pages of this book are gorgeous and just add so much more to the books as opposed to if it had just been walls of information.

The Codex is a good read for any Mortal Instrument reader who enjoys reading about the history of the world and how the Shadow World has grown and developed up until today!

Fun lore for anyone who enjoys the Shadowhunter universe and wants to learn more of the specifics in the worldbuilding. And this naked hardcover is stunningly gorgeous.

Reading the codex was fun even if i feel like i learned essentially nothing more about the world. I guess that’s supposed to be the experience of reading the codex for Clary too so it’s meant to be like that? But it probably could (and should!!) have been more.
The little notes makes it super fun and i added my own
