Good collection of information about the shadowhunter world. At times it was hard to follow. It switched between reading like a text book and reading in the same comedic way the novels were written. This confused me as to whether the book was going for boring text book or funny text book.

I had such high hopes for The Shadowhunter's Codex. I love everything from this series...but this book was so boring. The only thing that was enjoyable for me were the doodles in the margins that were written in by the main characters from The Mortal Instruments series. A lot of it was information that I already knew, and the information that I didn't know was just very dry. (2.5 Stars)

got bored and only read the cool bits

Just after binge-reading most of Cassandra Clare's books from about City of Fallen Angels to Lord of Shadows, it was a good book to end the binge on. Whilst it is still very, very Shadowhuntery, you take a step back from the story and fiction side of the world and still learn a whole lot. It also would be an extremely beneficial read for future Shadowhunter Chronicles books as it can supply a lot of contexts and understand a lot more information she usually offhandedly mentions.

This book has an extremely specific audience, for those who are large fans of the books and want to understand the Shadow world more. If you don't fall into this category, I'd suggest you'd probably find this book a bit tedious and boring, however, you are probably not the intended audience. You definitely don't need to read it to understand the series and the world - as I finished the series before I read it, so if you don't think you would be interested, don't worry about not knowing things for future books.

my first book of 2021! although i did start it in 2020, i read, and finished, most of it today so i say it counts lol.

this was such an interesting read. it’s probably the closest to non-fiction i’ll read willingly but wasn’t really boring? it was a lot to digest as the information is packed tightly but the little notes from simon, jace and clary add a very-needed aspect of humour. i definitely wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who isn’t a massive fan of the shadowhunter chronicles, as it would probably be very boring to you, but as someone who absolutely loves the series and especially the world, this context and clarification was actually fascinating.

i’ll probably end up coming back to this, to check details, which i think the codex is really useful for and if i ever write shadowhunter fanfiction i can see this being essential. it was a good read to start the year!

sırf Ölümcül Oyuncaklar serisi tamamlansın diye aldığım bir kitaptı. clary, jace ve simon’ın kitabın sayfalarına yazdıkları notları okuyarak kitabı bitirdim diyebilirim. anlatılan çoğu şey serinin kitaplarının içindr yer almakta, o yüzden bu kitaba puan vermek istemiyorum ama yine o güzel çizimler hatrına 5 yıldız vermeden de geçemeyeceğim.

Everything you need to know about the shadowhunter world in one book. Very easy read and funny along the way.

Illustrazioni bellissime.

Good as just a little side companion, but it is a textbook at the end of the day, so there are some dry spells. The character notes and doodles make up for it, though. Just a good average read.

Fifth Revision, 2020, Allie Rey,
Weeping in her room because she finished reading this, MY.

This is my 50th read for 2020 which marks the end of my Shadowhunter chronicles marathon and also me reaching my Goodreads reading goal for 2020.

This book means so much significance to me now (even more so because it's the book that got me to my 2020 goal) and I feel like one of you Nephilims now after reading the Codex. It's like reading my History textbook all over again but make it Shadowhunter and Downworlder style.

The illustrations in this book is to die for and because I focused on reading it (I was very immersed in it) so much, I finished it quick. I will probably give this a re-read whenever I feel like learning my Shadowhunter roots again.

I love this world. I really do. It has been such a wonderful roller coaster with the books. This is so special and dear to me now. Cannot wait for the continuation of The Last Hours and The Eldest Curses. God bless Cassie Clare for feeding us more stories of the Shadowhunter world!
