This was a good read. I decided to read this because I'm rereading The Infernal Devices to prepare for Chain of Gold, and I rediscovered my love for this series.
I only recomend this book to a true fan of the saga shadowhunters, because its not about another amazing adventure of our beloved favorite characters, is a collection of shadowhunter history, that starts when the Angel Raziel gave a cup with his blood to Jonathan and turn him into the first Nefilim (the mix of human and Angel). It talks about demonology, downworlders, the Law of the Nefilim, the different kinds of Runes, etc.

The Shadowhunter’s Codex by Cassandra Clare is a novel written in a textbook style for young shadowhunters. This “edition” of the textbook is annotated by Jace, Clary, and Simon.
I’m not sure this adds much to the Shadowhunter world but it was fun and gives us another chance to hang out with Clary, Jace, and Simon.
The creativity of Cassandra Clare's mind is so impressive. Creating a textbook for a world you have created is not easy and I am so impressed with her talent.

I've read this little by little, so much information, and it's so unique to have a book, that the characters had as well. I enjoy things like that, and I enjoy all the interesting things that came inside this book.
After reading the first five books in The Mortal Instruments series and knowing that I was going to buy The Infernal Devices at some point I really wanted to get my hands onto the Shadownhunter’s Codex once it was published. I am a naturally nosey person when it comes to books and learning more about the book world so I was glad when I got it as a Christmas present.
This book did not disappoint me at all. Throughout the pages you feel as though this is something the Clave has actually wrote down from the way the language comes across. Instead of the usual story writing style that Cassandra Clare usually uses throughout her books, she and Joshua Lewis slip more into an instructional guide which makes you feel as though the Codex is a real thing.
There was an immense amount of information in the Codex but not enough to make you want to fall asleep.. There was a lot of new information though that gave you a real insight into how much effort was actually put into creating this whole world of Nephilim and Downworlders and the amount of research that was put into it.
The notes that were scattered on the pages from Clary Jace and Simon were really amusing to read and you could see that in the process of putting together this Codex, Cassie Clare definitely did not forget the true personality of her characters. Even in these short notes you were able to put together the type of person each one of them was. The only gripe I do have with the notes were that a lot of the time it was hardtop know where she wanted you to read them.
One of my favourite aspects of this Codex is the fact that towards the beginning of this book Magnus Bane has his own section of writing. Throughout this small section his sarcasm was seeping through while still being quite informative.
The only problems that I really had with the book is that there were some sections, like Magnus’, where it cut through a sentence and the sentence wouldn’t carry on for quite a few pages then which made you lose the flow of reading. The notes were also a little hard to read sometimes since you couldn’t really tell where she wanted you to read them.
Overall though, I am still extremely glad that I had this as a Christmas present and it’s made me understand the Shadowhunting world a lot better. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan of Cassie Clare’s series’.

If you're a fan of the mortal instruments and the Infernal Devices, you should definitely read the Codex. This book gives a lot more information about the shadowhunters' world, and is extremely interesting. Also, the drawings and illustrations are so beautiful, and definitely added to the entire experience. But I think that what made this book special were the side notes by Clary, Simon and Jace. They made me laugh so many times, and I looked for them in every page. They added so much to the reading experience, and I loved it.
Great book to read if you're a fan of the series :)

Loved parts of it but overall some was boring/drawn out. Cute how the sketches of Clary and the three of them commented back and forth in it.
This is a good read for when you want to brush up on your Shadowhunter saga knowledge without completely rereading each series. With little narrations from some og favorites, this is a fun and insightful companion piece.
this made me love the series even more than i already do. I loved the clary/jace/simon writing within the codex but i also feel so informed about demons and all other creatures that exist in this world. it was great!
adventurous
funny
lighthearted
medium-paced
Very interesting, much better than the essay anthology. I really liked the comments added by the characters, most of it was very funny. I LOVED seeing all of the artwork by Cassandra Jean, she is so talented.
