Not as good as [a:J.K. Rowling|1077326|J.K. Rowling|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1510435123p2/1077326.jpg]'s companion books, but still a fun read - and a good refresher before reading [b:City of Heavenly Fire|8755785|City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1460477794s/8755785.jpg|13629068] since it's been about ten months since I finished [b:City of Lost Souls|8755776|City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1460477703s/8755776.jpg|13629058]. Character commentary is always enjoyable. :)

The book was really good and allowed me to understand the politics of the shadowhunters society even better.
Mmm... Tengo sentimientos encontrados con este libro. No me sumo prácticamente nada a lo que ya sabía del mundo de Shadowhunters, fue sacar toda la información ya aportada en las diferentes sagas en un solo libro. Más de lo mismo.
Lo único que si me gustó es la historia de Jonathan Cazador de Sombras, el primero con el nombre.
El resto fue repetitivo... Me esperaba más ...

Even though at some parts it seemed a little dull, it wasn't because it would suck you in. I really enjoyed reading this and I really liked the illustrations throughtout.
06/21/18 I might have to take back some of what I said before - some parts are dull. Not too bad but they don’t make it easy to get through the book. I also thought that the tone of the book was interesting. I enjoy how it wasn’t textbook boring. I find it to be more like a self help book or something.

So, admittedly, I didn’t love the Mortal Instruments but this came in a box set with them. I wouldn’t have read it otherwise.
It surprised me though. For what it was, a *factual* book on the Shadowhunters World, it was done well and it wasn’t as boring as I feared, though at times it was dull. I LOVED the illustrations everywhere. The insights from Clary and Jace were okay, I liked the notes Clary took from Luke. Simon’s notes made me smile sometimes, which was good on a page of what would otherwise be dull information.
I was disappointed in the fact it didn’t explain the terms Seelie and Unseelie, because I know what these mean in other book worlds but I’m not sure if it’s different in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. Also the list of names did not reach out to all cultures and stem from worldwide surnames and this is supposed to be a guide to help all Shadowhunters.
