My first ever one star rating. Its just, I don't get why this book came out when literally the world is expanding since there are many books coming still. What, a NEW Codex will come out 10 years from now or smthing? Its a guide, its supposed to have all the details about the Shadow World but instead I encountered "unknown","mystery","unanswered". Like seriously, it annoys tf out of me and literally 90% of this book includes all the knowledge that we learned while reading the novels. Also, there are so many inconsistencies in the details and the side remarks of Clary,Simon and Jace are unnecessary (they said its funny, but no I find it irrelevant instead).To think that I was about to buy the most expensive version of this, Thank God.
I just really wanted to file this under non-fiction. I felt so Shadowhuntery reading it. It's full of art and silly sidenotes and it's like the Quidditch and Fantastic Beasts books for Harry Potter, except it's actually surprisingly long and has tons of fun information. Love love love.

This book was full of History ( boring history) and shadow hunter politics . Two of my least favorite things to read about . It was kind of boring specially because after reading TMI and TID I almost know everything mentioned here ( minus the very detailed details). But what was good about it is the notes between Clary , Jace and Simon . It adds Intimacy to the reading experience .Also reading the codex makes you feel in apart of the shadow hunter world since every one of them have read it including our favorite shadow hunters so that's a win.
some parts felt a bit dry but the banter was very entertaining. illustrations are amazing

This probably a 2.5 star book, but I'm in a Mortal Instruments mood, so I'm feeling generous.
It's the instruction book to all things Cassandra Clare(in the shadowhunter/nephilim stories)
I am obsessed with the shadowhunters world, so of course for me this book was amazing! I just love learning more and more about it. I also loved the fact that this book had Clary, Simon and Jace's notes all over it, that made it so much more fun to read!
