One word: beautiful.
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known."
(Full review to come after I recover from a heavy, but awestruck, heart.)

3.5 solely for Sidney Carton and no one else 🖤
I read this back in high school and liked it quite a bit, as I recall. I remember that the guillotine scene was strategically placed so that when you turned the page, the next page was all red. Pretty graphic and very cool to a teenage reader.

An amazing read. A touching and powerful account of an infamous time and details the plights of humanity while telling a fantastic story. Ending made me cry like a baby

I would never think that the book will make me cry as the pace and depth of the plot could not drive me in, but as you reach the ending, it just swallows you like a whirlpool.

I thought it might be time to give this book a second chance after a horribly negative impression leftover from high school. It's actually quite good. Surprise, surprise.

They say this is a good first Dickens because it’s excellent, concise & popular. It is, but for being those things, I still feel like I haven’t read a Dickens novel, which should be various, stuffed like a hot house and widely unread.
