I really love a slow-build, subtle romance and Rattlesnake is a top-notch example.

Well this just shot straight to the list of top five books I've read all year. Wow.

Well this just shot straight to the list of top five books I've read all year. Wow.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for in a romance novel. The characters were interesting and flawed, the romance was slow and sweet, the conflict was believable, and the resolution was solid.

It's a similar plot to [b:The Downs|25698091|The Downs|Kim Fielding|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1433921144s/25698091.jpg|45529426], although the characters, setting, and genre are very different. But I found the central conflict in The Downs a little difficult to relate to, while Jimmy's problem was easy to understand. The writing really pulled me right into his emotions. I definitely felt for him, all through the story.

This book has no supernatural elements, unlike a lot of Kim Fielding's books, but the setting is a little bit unreal to me. Maybe it's just because I've never been to any former Old West towns, although I would like to visit one someday. I always kind of raise my eyebrows slightly at non-homophobic small towns in fiction, but this novel actually addressed that issue in a realistic way, several times.

Overall, this book is great, and I recommend it highly.

Tell me a story
of running, breaking, falling,
standing still, at last.

4.5 stars

This was somehow both a slow burn and a love at first sight story, it's so difficult to believe it only spanned 15 days or so.

Shane was a sweetheart, a naive beautiful sweetheart, and I couldn't believe that he was the one who made a move. Jimmy was so freaking broken it was painful to watch, but his decision at the end was absolutely redeeming.

I loved the MCs, particularly how they both could and couldn't let go of each other.

This was a great read.

5 stars…
God damn this was sad and happy. I was on the edge of my seat so nervous for the conflict but happy with the resolution. Jimmy was scaring me so bad and I can honestly say I have no idea anything about him, I’m glad Shane could tell when he was lying because I couldn’t lol.

Overall this story was definitely sad but good and heartwarming blah blah blah.

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 3/5 on tears. Jimmy and I cried a lot.
