This was such a fun book. The audio narration was so good and Stacey was a hoot! I feel like you have to suspend belief a smidge for this book but that wasn’t an issue. I loved following David through his journey and growth. He really developed as a person/character.

Daniel Aleman’s ‘I Might Be In Trouble’ is a raucous rollercoaster of a novel that’s about self-discovery as much as it is about mayhem. The main character of David can’t seem to decide what he wants in life, and he proves to be a frustrating protagonist, albeit an endearing and relatable one. The first half of ‘Trouble’ reads like a gay ‘Weekend At Bernies.’ It’s so completely bonkers and zany that it makes it difficult to commit to the second part of the book, which plays things a bit ‘straighter,’ so to speak. The comedic elements of Aleman’s book work best, unbelievable though they might be. But by the time David must face the consequences of his actions, it’s all a bit anticlimactic and dull. In the end, ‘I Might Be In Trouble’ doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. A comedy? A love story? A mystery? A thriller? All of this adds up to a book that feels overstuffed and tonally all over the place.
A Must-Read for Anyone Who’s Ever Felt a Little (or a Lot) Lost (Spoiler free)
Sometimes, you just need a book that gets you and I Might Be in Trouble by Daniel Aleman was exactly what I needed while taking a quick break from my mountain of fantasy reads. This story is so well written and deeply relatable for anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community who’s ever wrestled with self-doubt, identity, and the overwhelming fear of making the wrong choices.
David’s journey hit me hard. Not only is he navigating all the usual struggles of figuring out who he is, but he’s also dealing with crushing anxiety, guilt, and the fallout of a one-night stand that spirals into something way more complicated than he ever imagined. The stakes are high and not just in terms of right or wrong, but in the way he perceives himself and his worth. Aleman writes with such honesty that I felt every ounce of David’s fear, hope, and self-doubt.
Despite the heavier themes, there’s a warmth to this book that made it impossible to put down. The characters feel relatable and familiar, the emotions are raw but never overwhelming, and by the end, I just wanted David to win. If you’ve ever felt like you’re one misstep away from total disaster-whether in love, friendships, or just existing, this book will speak to you. Highly recommend!

I loved how meta this book was. I couldn’t wait to see how it would end, and what would happen to our characters
fast-paced
David's literary agent Stacey is like a compassionate Bebe Glazer (complimentary). My expectations of how the plot would unfold based on the premise were incorrect, but this was still a fast, fun read.
