Definitely not my favorite book. I wanted to like this more than I did
I thought it was really beautiful the way this book portrayed trauma and disability through the lens of a love story. However I felt elements of the plot were underdeveloped and that crucial narrative moments were sometimes thrown away. The book failed to spent enough time outside of the love story which meant I didn’t feel as emotionally connected to the characters. I think it had the potential to be truely heartbreaking and instead missed the mark by a little. Having said this it was a really sweet book with some incredibly poignant moments between Archer and Bree and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm quite disappointed with this one, I picked up this book with so much expectation which might be the reason why I didn't enjoy this book that much.
The only thing this book does good is the ML character, Archer. He is such a sweet, caring and charming man. He has to bear so much pain and lonely but didn't become some sort of sociopath and he is so smart, I always have soft spot for those smart people. I love everything about him, his insecurity, smug and "funny" lol. But Bree on another hand doesn't work the way Archer did to me. I feel like her character is aloof and shallow. She can use sign language because her father was a deaf and she also shares the same type of trauma with Archer which makes me feel like she's just created to be a match for Archer without her own living purpose.
I like the small townpeople, they are very loving to Bree but I feel it quite weird when they accept immediately Archer back to the community. Did they just ignore him for his almost entire life because he is a mute??! I think they need more work to be more understanding and then accept Archer. And the end makes me feel so rush, like Archer need no effort to be accepted back especially when he will be their landlord now. The inheritance is also so confusing, though Archer is the eldest son but Travis is the legitimate son so yea I don't think it would be that easy to take over the town. It seems the author just want it to be plot convenient :)))
I think I might enjoy this book more if not I had so much expectation for it from before reading. It has the interesting and potential set up about the mute guy wants to find love but the executive is not so good.

Audiobooked it for the reread. Just as good as the first time. Probably my favorite book ever, it’s pure gold.
ugh this book had SO much promise. i heard all about how emotional this story was and how many people cried while reading it, but not a single tear was shed. i really liked the first half of it but then it just felt like the plot fell apart for the sake of spice.
