The characters were annoying as heck and SO FUCKING PROBLEMATIC!
No steamy sex, sorry but twenty kissing scenes is not steamy, it’s not my thing. I don’t like kissing it’s weird, I’m weird.
Also why was there a knock off gossip girl bit. So poorly done, annoying, and is that even a thing at uni? Sure as hell isn’t one at mine. Not a single person gives a shit about the sports team. Maybe we don’t have a good sports program? Idk. But the whole weird trope of athletes being super popular enough to have an entire site dedicated to stalking him is pretty far fetched for me.
It wasn’t good overall and I didn’t find any redeeming qualities that made up for the lack of sex and awful characters

Ballet dancer Ivy spills coffee on Football king of Campus Roan King. He propositions her and she knocks him back determined to have nothing to do with an arrogant football player. But they turn out to be neighbours and classmates, eventually being paired up in a project together. They eventually get past their preconceptions and it’s big love all round with a bit of angst over their families and futures thrown in.
This was a fun, ok read, but I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I love the trophe of a manwhore jock turning out to actually be hardworking and sweet once you get to know them. Roan’s hidden vulnerability made him really likable, but I felt a bit like I needed a bit more. Maybe a bit more personality to him i’m not sure. Just a bit ‘more’. It was just a bit ‘meh’. I am trying to pinpoint why.
It could be that I was really invested in the story until the two actually got it on. What on earth happened to the first sex scene after all that delicious slow burn? *looks under cushion*. I actually backtracked through pages as if my Kindle might have stuck some electronic pages together. How can I be denied the BEST BIT OF THE WHOLE BOOK? Yes, the sex scene just ends as soon as it starts then subsequent ones are inferred. I was really deflated. I’m not saying I need high erotica here but something... SOMETHING!
I also felt that although the cover is hot, it’s not representative of the two characters. Ivy is a slim ballet girl with minimal curves. Roan has huge muscles. He’s massive by all accounts. The cover couple just don’t fit the bill. It irked me.
There was quite a lot of mild drama. Both have family dramas, career dramas and we have best friend drama. It was coming from all angles but none felt very focused on and developed.
And although the book is full of people talking football with Roan I missed the actual games and sense of team camaraderie.
So yes, a little deflating for me.

I ended up skimming this book a lot because it was so repetitive. If I had to read another 3 pages of how hot Roan was I was going to scream. Yes I get it he is a god among mere mortals (cue the eye roll). And it happens a lot over the book. Too much repetitive internal debates with the heroine that was really annoying.
Ugh. I think the 3 stars is honestly very generous. There were tons of typos and grammatical errors. The first time the author referenced the Cincinnati Bengals she spelled it Bangles. I love a good reformed man whore story, but this one seemed rushed but overly drawn out if that makes any sense.
Bottom line: would not recommend.

I rather enjoyed this little beauty of New Adult? Emerging Adult? Collegiate Sex for Young Adults? I don't what genres these are anymore. More so that the tripe I've read lately it's really sexy and the characters are a lot of fun. Of course they're gorgeous and all the rest of it but I liked that the frothiness was offset but some serious issues (deaths in the family) (dealing with fame). I know college ball is a Big Deal (I've seen Friday Night Lights) but it was nice to see the other side of the story. I also liked that the author tried to be inclusive GAY PEOPLE! Buut not in a token, it was rather thoughtful and nuanced for a novel of this type frankly. There was also some talk about pregnancy and the like and unlike a lot of other novels there is talk of going to a clinic on not just relying on condoms (How Un-American ;) ;)) and seeing what other contraceptive methods there are - could she have suggested something other than the pill? Yes. But well, let's not run before we can walk shall we. Obviously no one of colour but like I said, American (sounds silly that I constantly bring this type of thing up but I am constantly shocked by the lack of diversity in American books in whatever genre - it's like the authors themselves only expose themselves to all -white communities or perpetuate the trope that only white people are the ones worth writing about). I'll take what I can get ;)
This was so cute! Was it just like every other NA book I've read? Yes. Was it completely cliche and typical? You betcha. I really don't care, though. This was so freaking cute. It wasn't life changing and it was shallow at best. But, damn, it was worth it to spend a few hours reading a cute romance. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a cute NA romance with little drama. There was barely any drama in this which was a great change. I really recommend this for a lazy day when all you want is a fluffy romance.
