I do not understand this book lol. I also found it very very hard to concentrate on the stories as they were so boring. The deeper meaning of these stories were unknown to me. Maybe I’ll read it again to try to analyse it? But I don’t think I would pick it up voluntarily lol. It also put me in a slump!!!

"He gets up from his chair and refills their glasses.
That's it, he says. End of story. I admit it's not much of a story.
I was interested, she says."
This quote from 'Everything Stuck To Him' sums up my feelings about these stories. At first I thought I wasn't going to get anything out of this writing, but I did change my mind. They are melancholic and often unsatisfying and hard to relate to at this point in my life (and hopefully at no point in my future). The stories did suck me in and he sure can convey a lot of information in few words. I think I just wanted more poetry and maybe relatability.

Will only give a rating after a second read because my thoughts right now might not give the justice it deserves and I fear that I might underrate it.

I just didn't get it. Some of the stories were interesting, but most were just meandering. And while all touch on love, there's nothing sweet about the tales Carver spins; there's a certain kind of...waiting, fleeing...dying..., involved with the love Carver writes about. I think I'm not the intended audience for this collection, I can imagine an older, whiter, gentleman really enjoying these ''slice of life'' anecdotes of an America long gone.

Praise to the following stories: Tell the Women We're Going. The Third Thing That Killed My Father Off. Popular Mechanics. Everything Stuck to Him.
