Carver’s writing in this collection of short stories was good, but I just don’t think it was my taste. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters, although I enjoyed a few of the dialogue scenes, especially in the title story.

“There was a time when I thought I loved my first wife more than life itself. But now I hate her guts. I do. How do you explain that? What happened to that love? What happened to it, is what I'd like to know. I wish someone could tell me.”

I enjoyed this, and I'm looking forward to picking up more Carver in the future.
