I read this book many years ago, I believe when I was 14. I had limited conversations about consent and sexual violence during that time. Now as a 30 year old, I recognize the book did not age well.

Although rights for women were realistically limited during the 19th century, certain scenes in the book came across as justifying certain violence against the heroine. Even attempting to paint them as act of love or desire. It’s not something I’d recommend for others.

After having read the first two in this series, I felt compelled to keep reading on. I loved the heroine at the beginning, and in the other books. It seemed as though halfway through the story, her personality changed, and she went from being a brave heiress, to a scared school girl. Thankfully this didn't last, and near the end of the book, she was herself again. Didn't care much for the plot, and there were not a lot of steamy scenes until near the end. In fact, in most of the love scenes in this book, the heroine is in pain and not enjoying them. Not my cup of tea. All in all, a decent read, I liked some parts more than others, but not one that I see myself reading again any time soon.

Oh lord I remember this one too - including the overbearing brothers making an appearance to ruin their sister’s marriage. Joy ! Lots of bonkers fun

One of those books which I sneaked off of my mom's collection of romances, and this must have been my first ever historical romance read, sans classics like Pride and Prejudice.

I remember enjoying how happy and unrestrained the FL was, quite unlike many other women from the elites, as I now realise, all ready to chase her man. That is something that is still stuck with me, and I might re-read this many more times in the future again.

I'm often searching hard to find a historical novel starring a determined female lead like her, but I haven't found many. If anyone has some recommendations, please comment :)

I do realise that this book might come off as chauvinistic now but I don't think I'll change my opinion regarding this book since I'm slightly biased towards it, partly because of my memories connected to this novel, making it an automatic comfort read to me.

This was pretty bad, to be honest. Lots of rape-y scenes. Lots of idiocy passed off as period authenticity and precociousness. I definitely wasn't a fan.

I think I’m done with this series. I’m not a fan on dub con, except in dark romance. I’m also not a fan of the “hero” calling the heroine a ninny, an idiot or stupid when she has done nothing wrong. The past 3 books have had asshole heroes. 2 tormenting the heroines with tricks and harsh words. Like the heroines weren’t even human. I’ll leave this series to the true historical romance readers.

I liked this one. I was happy to see Alex and Douglas, Ryder and Sophie were back. The fact that her husband couldn't call her Sinjin instead called her Joan was weird.

enjoyable enough. find her endings to be rather weak, the rest of the novel is better than the end. Still amusing enough.

I get the whole "Gift of the Magi" thing, but I find it really hard to believe that a woman raised to think herself responsible for the well-being of thousands of vassals and dependents would relinquish her estate to her evil uncle just to prove that she loves a guy.
