For starters, the story itself is just heartbreaking. A kid, determined to enact revenge for his brother's murder, visited by seven ghosts from his past. Each showing him how they died, and what that should mean to him.
The illustrations bring the words to devastating life, highlighting the emotions and adding depth where the words were unable to on their own.

This is a hard review to write. Mostly because I’m comparing the graphic novel to the verse novel. I loved the verse novel SO MUCH, but the graphic novel’s illustrations fell flat for me. I didn’t like the watercolor illustrations throughout and wished there was more of the original poetic devices used to tell the story. The pacing of the verse novel was perfect and the graphic novel seemed to change my relationship with the elevator scenes. What once felt urgent now felt like rambling.

2.5 I think the novel would have been a better way to read this story, this style just was like reading a bunch of random conversations with so little context to whom they are and it just felt like wtf is actually happening here and then that ending was a let down.

I am not a highe fan of graphic novels but I enjoyed this one. The drawings are insane, really powerful, detailed und gripping.
I also liked the story. I just think some of the depth went missing. But it might be a good book for young readers interested in the topic or foreign language reader starting their reading journey.
