Omg….
I loved the original version of this book, but the pictures take it to another level. I cried at the end, cause it ended so abruptly, but it was so touching and moving!

I read the original story first and I loved it. The graphic novel is the same text but now with the pictures of course. The pictures really brought it to life and were so interesting to look at. 100% recommend this book. This should be read by younger kids to learn the importance of thinking before you act.

Sobbing pissing crying, this book is a real tear jerker and offers a unique view on the cycle of gang violence in America. My only problem with this book is the art which is unfortunate because it’s a graphic novel, some of the pages are so amazing and are able to capture pain so we’ll and then others the faces are so disproportionate it makes me cringe.

Pretty stunning.
The blurbs on the back talked about the culture of gun violence. I had a different take away, on the importance of culture and how it informs the decisions we make - or even feel compelled to make.
(I now realize I read the graphic novel instead of the actual book. The visuals of the novel worked well with the story.)

Powerful, and the art was amazing. There was both a lovely level of detail while the watercolor was not completely full, leaving some pieces to the imagination. The story was incredible. I'll be reading this multiple times.
