It’s been a few years since I have read this, back when I had it as a lit circle option for my poetry class. Here I am, back again, as I approach planning for my new YA Lit class. In my process, I found that there is now a graphic novel option. And wow. The illustrations add a whole new weight to Will’s story, and I would recommend this version to anyone over the first. Jason Reynolds is so talented, and I’d love to bring his stories back into my classroom after years away. Highly recommend!!

This was insane to be honest. The story was super gripping and some of the quotes in this book were just so insanely good. I loved it. Also, the art style was just GORGEOUS!!

This is an adapation of the prose book by Jason Reynolds. The art is staggeringly beautiful--I spent a lot of time staring at the shading on the faces.

The story is sad and contemplative and there isn't much of an ending to this book. It felt like something The Hate You Give may have drawn from very strongly, but then the experiences in this book seem to be unfortunately common.

If I hadn’t been in a reading slump , I would’ve given this five stars. Although , the ending didn’t really make sense in my head.
