The art makes this story feel so much more real and powerful.

Also many have said they wished they knew what the mc chose at the end but I actually think it worked better ending off as "You coming?".
The book's purpose is to make you think, not tell you what to think.

The mc has been told to think in relation to "The rules", but as he hears the stories of people lost to him from gun violence, he starts to question himself and the rules.

I think it's pretty obvious what the book is telling us without it being explicit. Reading it a second time improved my experience of this book because I was able to discover so many hidden meanings.

This book teaches us empathy towards those caught in gun violence and also forces us to think about our biases and the way we were taught to think.

So my question is, do you think he left the elevator?

I love the original so much: Jason Reynolds reading it.
I thought the graphic novel was super well done; if a student only accessed the story this way, I think the message is still there.

When I read Long Way Down last year, I didn't really connect to it as much as I'd hoped. This graphic novel adaptation is absolutely superb, and added a layer of depth and emotionality that I was missing in the original. A heartbreaking and empathetic look into the cycle of violence.
