A man reunites with the stepdaughter he lost in a divorce when she was a child. Now she is all grown up and a lovely person who helps to bring his world together.

I was completely charmed when I started this book, but by the end I was disappointed. Although some of this light novel is very funny, the ending was so strange and the characters not quite likable enough. Not that I require likable characters in my reading, but in this type of book they are necessary.

Funny. Intriguing. So glad it ends well. I love books that end up tied with a bow. Not everything was roses and sunshine by the end, but about as close as real life gets.

I loved this book at the beginning. I loved the banter between Thalia and her "dad" and the screwball comedy feel. But by the end I was tired of the characters and questioned some of the decisions the author made in the plot. I just didn't see Thalia getting together with the person she did. Ultimately it was fun but disappointing.

I saw two rave reviews of this book in one day, so I decided to give it a try. I was immediately drawn in to the book - the characteris were fun and quirky (as usually not annoyingly so) and the book was a quick, interesting read. Denise reminded me a of coworker who is so self-unaware, that it added an extra layer of amusement for me.

Yet another book I've read recently that seems like contemporary Austen, The Family Man is a decent enough book as long as you temper your expectations.

The characters are well-written, likable, and funny. The plot, on the other hand, while not wafer-thin, is pretty close. This is one of the few books I've read in recent memory that could actually benefit from an extra plotline or two. The plot is also pretty repetitive, but the dialogue is entertaining enough to see you through.

If you want something frothy and fairly fun, this might be just what the doctor ordered.

Good, but...I kept thinking there was going to be more, I don't know plot? Which sounds strange, because a lot of stuff happens in this book (Man sends condolence card to his ex-wife, who is recently widowed, is reunited with his long-lost daughter, and finds a new love) but it all seemed very passive somehow. Like the plot was just sort of flowing by while Lipman made wry comments about it, insetad of being actively engaged in what was going on.
