Ibi Zoboi is a master and I love everything she writes. Nigeria Sankofa Jones is an unforgettable protagonist, growing up under the thumb of her Black Nationalist father and The Movement. This YA novel reminded me of Safiya Sinclair’s memoir How to Say Babylon. I love Nigeria’s hero’s journey. This book is infused with ideas, smells, patterns, and so much love. Really beautiful. If the reviews put this at 13+ I’ll buy it for the library. But there is weed smoking and sex on page, all tastefully done

Ian black teen in her experiences growing up with a black culture and reaching out to expander views as well as keep her core parties as she pushes back against her father in order to go to a different school than what he envisions is right and expand her horizons and opportunities

It's an emotional book because of the things that has happened in her family and where she lives but it's very positive and she grows and has a lot of community in it.

I love how Zoboi told this story of the complexity of racism and movements and coming of age with such care and reflection. I cried, for so many reasons.
