I would have given 4 stars based on the story alone. I took off a start due to foul language.

Thespians could sum up my whole review. I went up and down and side to side with this book. I thought it was ending no less than three times. TBH, not really for me. Felt a little pretentious which I think was the point but I didn’t connect with the story much.

“You can justify anything if you do it poetically enough”
You can’t justify using 5000 Shakespeare quotes every 5 sentences, but okay… it’s whatever

If you’re willing to lean into the dark academia/obsessiveness of it all (see: Secret History) and suspend the disbelief that there’s no way these kids talk like that, then absolutely fabulous novel.
