Ehhh I wanted to love it, but I was honestly bored. The writing felt juvenile and it just wasn’t my cup of tea as I started reading it. I don’t think they really had chemistry and it just fell flat for what I wanted/was hoping for

That was…fine. Cute characters, an interesting premise, good banter in the dialogue. But it never elevated beyond “cute” for me and the premise wasn’t quite mathing. Plus, I can’t with characters who are completely lacking in the self awareness department. A romance author heroine in a gd romance novel being supremely lacking in self awareness?? Absolutely tf not. Not a single romance author with a grain of sense would be like, “I can totally cure this sweet, hot man of romance by doing romantic things with him” lol.
Also, as a writer myself, words cannot express how much I loathe — LOOOOAAAATHE!!!!!! — the fact that Sawyer’s ability to write was directly tied to Mason. And when I mean directly, I mean DIRECTLY 🤢. If I ever feel the need to call a man & thank him for saving me from writers block or call him my “muse” pls throw me in a lake forthwith, god.
Anyway. Cute but not a keeper.

I was hooked for the start. I loved the premise of unpromising but most of all loved the characters and their twists and turns. Highly recommend!

Tropes: One night stand, friends-to-lovers
Spice Level: 🔥🔥.5
Mason West, a swoony movie star who still believes in love, crosses paths with Sawyer Greene, a jaded romance novelist with a serious case of writer’s block, when they get stuck in an elevator. She needs to rekindle her creativity, and he’s looking for a way to stop falling in love. So they strike a deal—no strings, no romance, just fun. But of course, feelings start to sneak in.
I loved the rom-com inspired chapter titles and how Sawyer leans into classic tropes to lead Mason through their “not-dates.” Their banter was light and flirty, and the friends-to-lovers build had some really sweet moments.
That said, the romance itself felt a little surface-level. I wanted more tension, more spark—something to really make me root for them. The emotional connection didn’t quite land the way I hoped.
Still, it’s a fun, fast read packed with cheeky nods to rom-com favorites and an easy-to-love setup. If you’re in the mood for something tropey and low-stress, this one does the trick!
