UGH I LOVE THIS DUOLOGY. If you loved Addie Larue but you wished she had fallen in love with Luc (less evil Luc) READ THIS. I feel like these characters have become a part of me and the end had me so emotional. I think I liked the first one slightly better but it felt wrong to give this any less than five stars. I love that we got to see Anna and Khiran truly embrace their feelings for each other, and it felt like them against the world. This book is too underrated.
My goodness, I loved this duology. What an absolutely beautiful tale.
This books delves more into the powers and development of the gods and doesn't have as much of a historical aspect like the first book. But the ending provides some hard truths about how precious time is, and that tomorrow is not promised. It also had the ending I needed it to have.
I don't understand how these books aren't all over Bookstagram and Booktok. If you love magic realism, read these books!!!

This was such a perfect ending to this duology. Khiran and Anna are adorably devoted to each other in the face of whatever evil the first might throw at them. This book starts off a little slow to get to the main conflict. We know the first is coming for them, but the first third of the book is the two of them at home with an adopted teen. In fact I’d say this book could’ve been divided into thirds: 1 part them at home, 1 part them on the run, 1 part the finale.
What I liked:
We finally get an answer to why Anna seemed to not get a power. & I loved how she was connected to the tree & the first’s downfall
We got to meet more of the gods in this story, including Kaia who I wish had more face time- she seemed so powerful I would’ve loved to see more of her
Malik. I felt so bad for him! So glad he’s getting a second chance at growing up
The ending! Between the showdown of the gods, Anna’s immunity, and the tree’s final(?) gift to khiran & anna
I wish this was a trilogy just so I could have more of these characters!
What was meh:
After the build up, I expected more with the first.. he was a bit under whelming.
I was left with a couple questions at the end- was the tree’s gift its final gift? Did no one else get another chance at the gift? Immortality is lonely with just 2 people & they really wouldn’t be able share it with their friends?
If you liked the invisible life of Addie LaRue but wanted a happier ending, this duology is for you!

if you are reading this review hoping to find the perfect duology, you have hit the jackpot my friend.
i’m so glad i’m back in this beautiful world and can see anna and khiran again. i don’t wanna keep reapeating the same word but it’s truly exactly what this book is, beautiful. and it’s all because of the characters this author created. it’s heartbreaking knowing their story is over (for me at least).
anna is truly one of my favorite main characters, i loved her from page one and i loved her until the very last one. she has lived for centuries, she has seen the true evil of humanity, she has been the target of it, and yet she remains kind.
that’s just the word to describe her, she is kind, she is GOOD, she deserves the immortality she was given cause she just loves life and she loves humans.
her relationship with khiran might be one of the gentlest i’ve read about. these two just KNOW each other so deeply, you could feel their love through the pages. only they can understand each other on the level they do. they talk, they feel, they understand and they are just so devoted to the other. it’s so amazing to see those feelings so strongly through BOTH sides, the constant reminder that “if you go, i go”.
khiran said he knows anna’s heart as well as his and you could truly feel how real that was. they just had such a deep connection that i myself am amazed on how the author was able to express how intricate it was without it being seen as fake. they didn’t need to TELL the other how much they loved them, they just knew.
i am so grateful that i was put on the same earth as these books. thank you to whatever decisions i made to end up picking up this story.

What a beautiful duology. And I'm not gonna lie, I loved that ending. It was fraught with tension, with frailty, with humanity... which was pretty amazing as it's a book about God's.
The writing was so very well done. The story fully swept me up the entire time. And it's funny, cuz i didn't necessarily want the 2nd book, but I'm still very glad I read it.
I would happily recommend this duology, especially that first book.
