(really like 3.75 stars) I really loved this book but it didn't capture me as much as I expected it to? Not sure if I just had lofty expectations because of the high praise but it was beautifully written.
This book is a very good read. It captures the internal and external conflicts of the two main protagonists - a young German boy,Vernon, who is carried along by the fast current of German supremacy and a young french girl, Marie, who is blind and relies upon her sense of memory and intuition for her safety. I enjoyed it most because although it is a historical fiction, it still had a sense of mystery and fantasy with the Sea of Flames….

I REALLY wanted to like this book, but i just couldn't. I barely knew what was going on at any point, and what I did understand felt irrelevant. Why tf was there such a large storyline about a stone? I think I just struggle with male authors

Not sure the exact page but I stopped reading because it was taking me too long and I was getting impatient. However, the book was great (at least what i read and then what I jumped around reading in the ending) and I googled the ending so I could move on.

this was a difficult book to read but SO worth it. the characters are so complex and full and i truly wanted most of them to get a happy ending. an absolutely beautiful, necessary book.
