The amount of times everything goes wrong in this series has me pulling my hair out but also has me on the edge of my seat, and sometimes I want to throw the book across the room. But I still loved it. Also I can already feel Taran possibly heading down the path of being an antihero and it makes me want to scream because antiheroes are my worst kryptonite but this is *Taran* we’re talking about.

Thank you Kellen Graves for the ARC of this book! This felt like a gift to all of your readers.
Third book in a series of queer and trans normative high fae world with opposing magics.
This installment of the Rowan series follows Saffron who masquerades as high fae at a prestigious academy, attending fancy balls and still sleuthing for clues. We also learn more about this Ryder character who seems to try to (harmfully) lure Saffron into his antics. Readers eventually learn some truths about the workings of the world and of its magic, and are left wanting to uncover even more
Things I loved about book #3 in particular:
-More of Daure Asche and their special interests, as well as the development of theirs and Saffron’s relationship.
-More of our favorite moody, dramatic horned high fae Cylvan
-New characters!! I adore that throughout the series Saffron is never without solid, caring friends, though, I certainly miss the beantighes we have come to know and love
I love that, true to his character, Saffron, never loses his heart for the underdog, and refuses to let even the love of his life get away with pushing people around. Saffron never loses his compassion for other beantighes even when he effectively stops being one.
My only critique is that Cylvan has a touch of
touch him and die that extends almost as far as “we are the only ones for each other ever,” or “you are the only one for me,”/perhaps a touch too jealous, and really I think that’s more of a preference than anything.
I must admit that this envy is deeply in character for Cylvan’s dramatics. Regardless, these two are still OTP anyway for me. I will love them forever.
Once again fantastic prose, riveting plot, and characters you love and characters you love to hate. Please read this book!
File under: men I would never date IRL, trans, PTSD rep, queer, intense

phenomenal is always, even with some of the cliché / repetitive actions and descriptions. Also side-note: there are a lot more typos in this book than the previous ones. And I only add that in this review because I know for some people that is something that could make someone not want to give this book a chance, so I wanted to add it in to be fair. But for me personally, typos in books from independent writers don’t really bother me…I give them a little more lenience because they don’t have a team of 1 million fresh eyes that are constantly rereading and editing for them. They have to do it all on their own and it’s very easy to not catch these typos when you don’t have a fresh set of eyes looking at it constantly and you’re mostly relying on yourself. Anyway, back to my review! Cylvan and Saffron’s chemistry continues to be incredible. The plot continues to be engaging and addicting. I’m truly so in love with this series and cannot WAIT for the next book! This is the kind of book that you just don’t want to put down, yet at the same time you don’t want to finish it because you know you’ll be so bummed when it’s over. Definitely give this series a chance! Especially because it’s always good to support independent writers. But you won’t be disappointed by this one if you love fantasy romance.
The whiplash going from book 2's violent torture porn aesthetic to this book's school yard romance themes lmao.
Actually it was also pretty jarring to have 2 chapters about MC going to class and doing homework and fake not dating etc and then one chapter he goes to a party and accidentally does a bloody brutal murder. Then he goes to class again the next morning like OH ok
Plot still pretty wonky in this one but some characters get introduced who are fun and interesting and have potential (not u Ryder).
And yes I'll give it 4 stars because ultimately it is a fun series and I want to support the author to continue and also I want to see more like this in the world in general lmao

God this dragged. Literally nothing that went on prior to the 75% needed to actually happen, or at least didn’t need to be explained in such depth as it was. I really like the meat of this series and the plot is interesting, but the execution is just not there. So much fluff which completely kills the momentum. Also, Saffron really lost me in this book and I started to really dislike his character. I can still see myself reading the rest of the books just to find out what happens, but I really really hope I start enjoying them again or it’s going to feel like a chore.
My therapist will be hearing about this, and you will be forwarded the bill. This book both destroyed me and saved me all at the same time. I have to go sit and process for a while but as usual the writing was immaculate, sooooo so beautiful and poetic. The visuals always leave me stunned! Cannot wait for the next book and for my reread once the paperback is in my hands!!!
