Somehow I thought this was a trilogy the whole time and now it turns out.... it is NOT a trilogy X’D For f*cks sake.
I think I’ve enjoyed volume three the most so far, because by now I’ve come to terms with the fact that the two dudes have only known each other for barely four months and have only been in contact via correspondence for about two of those. Oh and let’s not forget the whole slave drama and the trauma that Saffron has suffered. Hah.
Let’s get straight to the traumatic experiences and their after-effects. I LOVE it! Graves wrote this so well (the writing in book three was wonderful anyway) and I could empathise so much. I loved all those little moments where Graves interjected behaviours that arose from the trauma.
It was really, really good!
Cylvan and Saffron were once again super cheesy, (especially Cylvan; ugh) but I loved the setting of the school. Especially the acquaintances (Copper and Sionnach) that Saffron made there. I also liked how Saffron was just more self-confident in some moments and also stood up for his friends.
Also the whole thing with his magic and how it weighs on him and what it does to him was ... *chef’s kiss*
And the story about Ryder was also really nice and oh, I love our witch hunters! So good that they were back again <3
I really enjoyed reading this one <3

everything about this book is just as amazing as i was hoping it would be!!
I'll post my full review once I've gathered my thoughts, but this is a great addition to an already phenomenal series, I love it so much

I am completely beholden to anyone who can make me ~nearly~ like Taran mac Delbeith again. If that doesn’t tell you what you need to know about Kellen’s ability to weave intricate and complex and real characters I am not sure what will.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. At no point did it slip into that middle child in a book series syndrome. I wasn’t bored or wondering why certain plot points dragged one.
We got to experience Saffron in a new environment with new characters and new threats. I love a magical school setting so I wish we got more of that but I will take what I can get.
Kellen’s writing is just as lyrical as the first two books and it was such an easy read.
I received an ARC in exchange for a review but I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
10/10 recommend to anyone with a love for fey, oaths and magic.
Now, on to The Fox and the Dryad to help aid my withdrawals.

On a much more positive note I loved the fluffier padding. I needed a break from Saffron and Cylvan’s constant suffering, in the first two novels, to see them laughing and living together in this one.
This series never disappoints!

i really wish i had something clever and insightful to say but i’m about to vibrate out of my skin the stress that this book put me through is actually diabolical (not me literally crying at the end), but THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!
