Better than I thought it would be. The book is a play-by-play of the days leading up to the Lincoln assassination, and the aftermath of chasing John Wilkes Booth. Good read for history buffs and nonfiction fans. I also worried there might be politics given the author, however I was pleasantly surprised to see the book stayed on topic.
It was a good book and a pretty easy read. I learned some things that I didn't know about the individuals involved in the Lincoln assassination.
The first half was slow for me, but it was quite interesting once the conspiracy started. O'Reilly's writing was nothing special and the continual foreshadowing at the end of each chapter got pretty annoying. But I learned quite a bit of what I hope is accurate information.
This book tells of the last two weeks of Lincoln's life, his murder and the capture and punishment of those responsible. While it is a quick easy read, there is no new information on this often told story.
This book was gifted to me by grandma and has been sitting on my shelf for years. I knew I would probably not going to like it very much but it was much more readable than I expected. I listened to this book on audiobook and read along with it so I was able to get through pretty quickly. I really don't know anything besides that Lincoln's murder's name was Booth so I don't know the accuracy of this. Overall it was just very much okay.
I thought this book was going to be more about Lincoln's assassination... the first 90 pages or so was about the Civil War before they even got to 5 days before Lincoln's death. To be honest, it was too dry and speculative for my taste. I love history, and I've read other historical fiction novels and thought they were great reads. This one was definitely not my cup of tea. In my opinion, it was a lot of extra, unnecessary pages and some of the same information over and over. I also feel like I learned more about the assassination in history class/from the history channel.
I was very surprised I liked this book so much, since I dislike O'Reilly so much. It was a real page turner. He did a great job narrating it for audible.com.
Wasn't a fan of how it was written- hard to get "into"
