I don't really know what to think, but i do know that i'm kinda disappointed. I really didn't enjoy the romance subplot, that seemed to then become the entire plot. In my opinion it was cringey, and felt like a juvenile high school relationship. I wasn't rooting for kady or ezra, and felt no attachment to them, so much so i can't remember their names. The detachment to the characters really hindered my enjoyment, because i just didn't care who died and didn't feel much emotion when people were dying.
I did enjoy the final part more, there was no romance and it was full of action and some humour that didn't feel forced. If the book had been like this the entire way through, i may have enjoyed it slightly more. The final plot twist was very disappointing though.
Normally the virus trope in a sci-fi is my favouirte, but for some reason i don't really enjoy a virus that just turns humans into raging murderers. I also felt that this book didn't do a very good job at creating tension or fear.
However, it was a very fast and easy read and i enjoyed the format. I also enjoyed the space setting and parts of the plot were enjoyable. I will continue with the trilogy.

WELL that was fun! When I first started this I wondered why it was written the way it was, as a dossier with files and "transcripts" and fancy formatting and graphics, wondering if it was a bit gimmicky. But the way it was shown actually has an impact on the storytelling and the plot. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan but I'll definitely pick up the next book. I'm curious how the author will continue to use this dossier format to tell the story.

the story is probably really good but i just couldn't STAND the dialogue
An excellent, ambitious book. It had so much to offer. Action, drama, danger, depth, and a truly interesting way of presenting it all. Highly recommended.
This book took some getting used to with the unusual media format that strays from the regular prose I am used to. However, I quickly became hooked and could not put it down!
The plot is so intense and gripping. There is a romantic sub-plot, but it does not overshadow the dystopian/sci-fi mystery, working instead to compliment it and create an unexpected depth to the developing relationship between human and AI.
Whilst the use of file reports, email and text conversations, interviews and written 'video' recordings may be initially seem off-putting, I highly recommend reading this book, as this method actually makes it a very quick and easy read, once you get used to it.

Classic boy/girl love story, yet nothing like I've ever read before. Set in the future, this book actually is exactly what it says: files. All different types of files, mainly chronologically, showing what happened on a planet and space ships. Unexpected twists and turns in the story and a lovely inventive way of writing a book and sharing the story, through the files... Looking forward to reading the sequels.

Just Reread this and I still love it so much. The mixed media works really well and it tells an amazing story in a unique way and the full cast audiobook really helps pull you in and immerse you in the story. When reading this I really connected with the characters and felt for them and in some parts I did cry lol. I definitely recommend reading this if you either love sci-fi or are looking to get into sci-fi.
