Easy, lighthearted read. It’s been awhile since I read any of Sarina Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers books, oof that’s a mouthful, but the story lines easily came back to me. Not my favorite of all the books, but still a good read.
Happy Ending.
I have read this one in the past. I recall not enjoying it as much as others. I pretty much skimmed through this time to catch the bits and pieces of the couple that the next book will be about. I did read the end again and it made me teary with how much happy the main characters create.
Looking forward to the next one.

The buddy read of the Brooklyn Bruisers series continues... This book, y'all. When I first read it, I had read it out of order and went into it with a lot of negative feelings about our heroine. I wasn't sure that I even wanted to know her story (hey, I'd started with [b:Brooklynaire|35053870|Brooklynaire (Brooklyn, #1)|Sarina Bowen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1516744572l/35053870._SY75_.jpg|56342351] and Lauren didn't come off well in that one until late in the book), but I remember loving it once I finally started it. Fast forward 2.5 years and here I am reading this again... but this time in book order. And oh, does that make a difference in how I approached Lauren and Mike's story!
So this takes place in the established timeline of post-[b:Hard Hitter|28869598|Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers, #2)|Sarina Bowen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1466612763l/28869598._SX50_SY75_.jpg|50874737], but pre-epilogue, however, the book opens up with Lauren's history with the team, with Mike, and gives us an idea why she's been as cold as she has been in the previous books. You see, Lauren and our goalie, Mike Beacon, have a bit of a history. Yes, that kind of history, but circumstances intervened and their first chance at a happily ever after was taken away pretty abruptly - and Lauren really never knew exactly why. There was the obvious answer, but that wasn't all and the way that it all went down was super-shitty. Mike's lived with that guilt ever since, but has managed to compartmentalize it and really lives for two things now: hockey and his daughter.

Lauren and Mike's journey back to each other was so well told - while I hated the way it all went down between the two of them, I was rooting so hard for them to just talk and hash out what happened last time. However, this wasn't easy for either of them - but seeing Lauren become more human, making friends with the girls (not the WAGs because... well, who cares about them. You'll understand my reaction to them as you read), seeing what drives her and is behind that icy shell was really one of the things I loved most about this book. Sarina Bowen pulls no punches when it comes to emotions and that roller coaster she puts you on to get to their HEA and I am a ho for it. Every. Single. Time. (That's probably one of the reasons why I'm doing this reread, lol.)
On to Brooklynaire!

On to Brooklynaire!
Really enjoyed this, the spice was fantastic and the strong characters were great. The lack of conversation for some big life events was interesting for me though

THE WAY i legitimately read this in one sitting... i am too far gone
i love lauren!! i wish we'd have seen more of her in the brooklyn series apart from Brooklynaire whose storyline overlaps primarily with this one.
on a related note, i might have enjoyed Brooklynaire more if i'd read Pipe Dreams first because you get to know nate here quite well already, but eh, i still enjoyed it either way so
