Brilliant had me laughing out loud so often I kept getting funny looks. Starting number two right now!

I am not usually into Mystery or crime books but the humour and on/off romance with Morelli and Ranger which I can see coming in the distance was enough to keep me hooked!

I had to read a book published the year I was born for a reading challenge. And this was terrible. The audiobook had a weird New Jersey accent by the narrator and random music in the background. The humor in the book aged terribly as well as the views on domestic violence

I feel a bit odd rating the abridged version of this book. I’m sure the full novel would have had better pacing, unfortunately the abridged version just kept throwing information and plot at me – it was too much, too quickly. While the storyline was funny and witty at times, it also then immediately turns around is unexpectedly dark and gruesome; more sexual violence than I had been anticipating. I will definitely check out the movie with Katherine Heigl.

I enjoyed the mystery and the comedic story telling, but the violence was too graphic and dark for my tastes.

Maybe what was missing from this was any sort of mystery? She’s a bounty hunter with zero experience acting completely recklessly and still ends up on top largely from sheer dumb luck? I never felt any sense of intrigue or urgency, nothing about it really sparked my curiosity. Also, are we supposed to be rooting for her to get with the guy who molested her as a child? Or did I completely misunderstand the tunnel-train game. If it wasn’t so short it probably would’ve ended up on my DNF list.
