Loved this!!!  The magical mythical quality and how the focus shifts more to Peter, and the fairytale plus the more Molly info is fabulous.  Loved the romance line too although the consent re the new river is a touch hazy!

So the fifth in the installment- still loving the characters but the plot is wacky and scantily linked up. I guess any magical fantasy is bound to have a deus ex machina moment or dozen, but this one is really silly.

Another great read from Ben Aaronovitch. This addition to the series wonderfully expanded on the world of the fae and all things magic and mystical. Beverly Brook was back in all her fiery glory and Peter seems to have made quite a lot of improvements in the sleuthing department. The mystery itself and how it concluded surprised me though there were hints along the way. Leslie was as tricky to figure out as ever. I loved the addition of Dominic, though his initial introduction included him making several racially insensitive comments, the kind I have unfortunately gotten used to hearing in the UK, he quickly stops that and plays the straight man to Peter Grant's dry British humor. Unlike the previous novel, this book had me hook, line, and sinker and kept my attention until the very end.

Peter is back, and he is a brave, hilarious, and dumb as ever. And as always, a delight to read about. This book is pretty different from the previous books in the series, since it takes Peter out of London and into the country, and there may or may not be invisible unicorns involved. Amazing. The ending was very abrupt, which was a bummer, and there was not nearly enough Nightingale (we do learn a bit about him, though), but still one of my favorites in the series.

Updated for my reread-same thoughts! I enjoyed it so much this time around, I was thinking of bumping up my rating to 5 stars, but the ending is so abrupt! I'm hoping I get some follow up on things in future books.

Oh man, am I aching over the revelation from Broken Homes still. This was a beautiful addition and WHAT a tone change! One of those books where you go look up the next one in the series to see whether you can get it express delivered while about halfway through this one (answer: yes. It arrives in a couple of hours.)

I don't know what I'm going to do when this series ends.

Brilliant depiction of the local area, interesting take on folklore and fae mythology, and a masterful construction of this incredible vibe of the concurrent spheres of reality and the world of magic. It feels so dense and vibrant!
