The book felt like it ended abruptly and left a lot questions.
Peter Grant leaves London and we see this Urban Fantasy series is just as good in a rural setting.
It's rarely the urban part of urban fantasy that appeals to me so I enjoyed having a book from one of my favourite series set in an environment I much prefer. It was also a delight to see the sarcastic lines directed at people or topics I am more familiar with.
The book suffered a little by having Nightingale, the Folly and other characters at a distance. But we do still get some interaction with them over the telephone. It also allows time for Beverley to spend more time on the page.
When the book opens with missing children I was a little worried about the direction the story might take. I tend to read to escape the real world rather than to encounter more misery. However, I should have had more faith in the author and the story turned out to me what I probably should have expected from this series.
Withholding a star mainly because I felt the side plot of Oswald's granddaughter was never resolved.
