OH MY GOD, MY HEART HURTS.

I am on my way to meet this author, and I don't think I'll be able to look at her without crying.

@authorbceleste just took my heart and shattered it.

Underneath the Sycamore Tree by B. Celeste
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

This book broke my heart in all the ways I expected… and a few I didn’t. Emery’s story is raw and devastating, and the way B. Celeste writes about grief, illness, and love is both gut-wrenching and tender. It’s heavy, emotional, and absolutely not an easy read - but it’s one that really lingers.

Kaiden and Emery’s relationship was complicated but full of moments that made me feel everything right alongside them. I loved how he wasn’t there to fix her, but instead gave her space to just be. That balance of pain and fleeting joy is what really made the story stand out for me.

It’s definitely a tearjerker, but also a story full of heart. Beautifully written, deeply emotional, and worth every ache.

i cross my heart and i hope to DIE. WHAT THE FUCK THIS RUINED ME.

I couldn't make myself rate this one higher simply die to the ending. I love B Celeste which is why i didn't look more into this book before i bought it. Otherwise i would have skipped it. That said, i loved the way these characters changed each other and everyone around them for the better.

i avoid death trope with my entire being but this book was so heartbreakingly painful and devastating. through it all i’m glad i read this even when i hate sad endings or sad books, it showed how people may not live to see tomorrow but even then, they try their hardest to make the most out of their limited time.

i loved emerys character so much; by the end of the book, i’m glad she had closure with her complicated relationship with her father and distanced relationship with her mother, from after lo passed, and i’m so glad that she had kaiden to help her feel somewhat normal even when she knew she had an unprecedented amount of time left.

kaiden never looked at her like a damaged object with a means to an end, he bickered with her, made her angry, never treated her like a breakable object even after he found out about her autoimmune disease.

knowing that she’s finally not in pain and hopefully with logan, i can absorb the fact that this had a happy ending in its own way and i’m glad i didn’t shy away from this even tho i cried more than a handful of times.
