That was heartbreaking! Knew the outcome from chapter one but it still was so sad. Emery whose diagnosed with a disease that already took her twins life moves in with her dad who left 10 years prior and meets her stepbrother Kaiden. He was a jerk but he wasn’t and their relationship was so sweet and raw. Perfect view on how life can be taken at any moment. And there was just so many emotions in this one, especially with the way the father was cheated out of things, how mama acted towards Emery. Bullying, strong friendship, physical and emotional pain, abandonment, death, real!

This WRECKED me! 😭
Ugly cried the last 60 pages and stayed up late to finish it. Completely worth it
This book was so beautifully heartbreaking, I could not stop reading it. I finished it at 2 am and cried for another 30 minutes. The ending was so not what I was expecting. This is about Emery and her struggle to cope and deal with not only loss but her own invisible illness. It also featured Kaiden as our MMC who also is trying to deal with his own losses. The way these two people choose to deal with it is so different from each other. This book really had a lot of highlitable moments for me, hitting very close to my heart.
I gave this 5 stars based on the emotions it made me feel. I did wish we had a little more detail into some things , some of the family dynamic with emery and her family but over all the feelings I felt when reading this was enough for me to give it 5 stars.

But the story is so important. It was so refreshing to see a story where serious health issues are talked about and we watch a teenager navigate life and love while dealing with it.
Emery was really isolated until she goes to stay with her dad and meets Kaiden, her stepbrother. She is such a brave girl that has such a unique way of looking at life.
I really don't know what to do with myself now.

I was utterly bewitched by this book. First off, I've read B. Celeste before and I have to say, this is my favorite book of hers. The writing was so real and heartfelt. She has shared on social media how close this story is to her because of her own health issues and I kept that in mind while reading this. There was no hiding when she wrote this. She laid everything out on the table. Her fears, her pain, her triumphs. And blended it into a beautiful storyline that will have you grinning and crying your eyes out. I LOVE books that rip me open. I love books that make me feel the beauty and the pain that life brings and Celeste nailed it. Even the taboo storyline was very well-written. Absolutely 5 stars!!

Celeste’s writing is so beautifully done on such a heartbreaking subject. Her details put into Emery’s character about her I’ll see and her daily struggles are so realistic. The relationship with her mother and father is heartbreaking but I love the growth these characters experience and learning to love again. I love the friendship Kaiden and Emery shared. While it did not start great Kaiden eventually pulled back his tough guy layers and you can see a softer sweeter side. Have the tissues ready you will need it. This book is full of love, sadness, happy times and emotionally heartbreaking moments. A book that will stand the test of time and one that everyone should read.
