MY NEW FAVORITE HELLO THE PLOT TWISTS HAD ME GASPINGGGGGGGG

Now, as my long-time fans would know, usually these reviews are very negative. However, I think I should start this off with some positives!

Things I liked about Restore Me
- Kenji

Ok, now that that's over with let's get into the worst book I've read this year. Guys. Secret Family plot twists are stupid. They just are. They're lazy and uncreative and usually don't even make sense with the rest of the story. I think for most of this book I was just confused??? WHY. DID. THEY. LET. JULIETTE. BECOME. RULER. OF. A. CONTINENT. ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO CANADA? No, because they explain this but they also don't? Juliette, at the end of the third book (Which was supposed to be the final book), declared herself to be the "Supreme Commander" which is already so stupid in many ways because she's been in an insane asylum for most of her life, she's unstable, and she has no idea how to run a whole country. But I guess in this book I think I'm supposed to feel bad for her???? For not knowing how to do the job she signed up for????? For not doing her work of RUNNING A COUNTRY???? Like I think this book would've been a lot better if I actually liked the characters because this was the most filler book of all the filler books. Nothing happened and yet everything was ~revealed~. Ope Juliette was adopted! Ope Juliette has a sister! Ope Juliette's parents are also Supreme Commanders. Ope Juliette's AUSTRALIAN????? Nothing made sense. Warner was a pig as usual. Kenji was there and made a funny comment sometimes. Juliette was a MENACE as usual, and her only personality trait is being the worst character ever created by man. Castle just came in occasionally to drop expository dialogue then left????? ALSO WHAT THE HECKKKKK IS THE STATE OF THE WORLD ATM???? I thought it was apocalyptic??? But no there is a full fledged society out there???? Why the heck are you waging war????? Like the world doesn't even seem that bad??? What you're describing is present day American and I can go through that daily without killing 554 people. Juliette's body count is in the low 600s and I think that's a little funny. No one in this book makes rational decisions, ever. By the end I just couldn't take it anymore. I hate every character and the plot is still stupid. I will be reading the next book. (Also unrelated but I love how the summary was like "it's been months since juliette was named supreme commander" like nice use of the passive tone dumbass we both know juliette named herself leader just like that dick Napolean)

This book was an emotional roller coaster. I really loved the beginning and the end, but the middle was a little slow; I can blame some of that one school but I still felt like it was missing something. I didn’t really feel like there was much of a plot going on until the end and even then it only lasted like two pages. I will say, I loved the Warner pov; it’s adorable how much he loves J, but I also liked seeing his character through a different lens. Oh, and the Supreme Commander’s meeting was totally giving the High Lords of Prythian from acotar which I found very entertaining. Pretty good read and I’m looking forward to the next book!

P.S - I didn’t realize Juliette’s mom name was Evie; guess I’m in this book :)

so i wanted to try my hand at a different style of review and i figured this would be a perfect opportunity since i LOVED THIS BOOK AH. I'm going to divide my review into five different sections: plot, world building, character development, editing, and overall enjoyment. This review is spoiler free.

Plot (5 out of 5 stars): The plot of this book had me hooked by page one. Unlike Unite Me, which took me a while to get interested in. Restore Me immediately had me intrigued and continued to keep me guessing. There were always new plot points being added to keep things interesting, but they weren't too overwhelming.

World Building (5 out of 5 stars): The series as a whole has excellent world building. I find this so because it takes place in a world that seems like a not so distant future. If the wrong people were put into control, I could totally see this type of dystopian society occurring. I also enjoy how the world building is approached because we are slowly learning things alongside the main character. Since Juliette is basically introduced to The Reestablishment at the same time as the reader in Shatter Me, it doesn't feel like we are getting bombarded with pages and pages of information. Slowly, in each book, we learn more and more about how the world works and this book certainly showed us a lot.

Character Development (5 out of 5 stars): The way the main characters continued to develop in this book was amazing. We truly see Juliette growing up and learning how the world works, learning how she navigates relationships, and learning how she views herself. I also enjoyed the growing amount of diversity in this book. There is BIPOC representation and just a taste of trans representation that has a wonderful opportunity to blossom in Defy Me. I also enjoyed learning more about Warner's character and watching him grow. Nazeera is one of my new favourite characters as well. One thing I missed was more time spent with Adam and James, they were very much put to the side in this book and I would've liked to see Adam and Juliette develop more of a friendship.

Editing (5 out of 5 stars): I've always found the editing of these books to be impeccable, and this book was no different. I like how, throughout the series, the crossing out of phrases was phased out as Juliette became more aware and unashamed of her feelings. I also enjoyed how this book gave us flashbacks to the Juliette we used to know in Shatter Me.

Overall Enjoyment (5 out of 5 stars): I really enjoyed this book. It had me screaming and yelling and feeling a lot of emotions. I was really invested in the relationship between Warner and Juliette, as well as the (hopefully) blossoming hate to love relationship between Kenji and Nazeera. I read the first three books in this series in under a month and it is now a staple in my collection.

Ever since Ignite Me, things have really been picking up the pace but I am sad about Aaron and Juliette. I know it’s my own fault but damn, people can’t have a simple happy relationship in these stories can they? Again, I know it’s my fault for getting into it, it’s a common trope, I just feel so yo-yo’d by this series already and I’m just hoping there’s some sort of happy ending because I was really getting into the new coupling.
Otherwise, the action is here, it’s picking up, we have an intense conflict picking up and to be honest, I’m glad the more artistic and poetic stylings have lessened, it’s simply not my style. But the story and characters are really flowing now and I’m fully invested
(Although did we really need a whole chapter dedicated to nothing but a single punctuation point?)

Took three books but this series just got SO GOOD HOLY SHIT

it was good, but i didn't start liking it until the middle ish but wtf was that ending, i need aaron and juliette to get back together but i reckon they will after that ending
