The secret was interesting... Richard less so.

Julia's Smythe-Smith woman are my favorite. They're all funny, strong, and take no shit. Richard is an ass, but I somehow found myself NOT hating him even though he was duping Iris horribly the whole book.

Eh, I don’t know what to say really, I thought the drama of this book was exceedingly good, it had a nice mystery with some cool plot twists but as a romance it is rather lacking. Both characters are happy in the end but it doesn’t feel as rewarding , their romance seemed rushed and told to the reader rather then shown.

I really like Julia Quinn, one of my favourite books is hers. But this one…this one was a complete disappointment. The writing is just as good as always, but the story…it just didn’t work for me.

(...)

Iris and Richard we not a good couple. I didn’t like their story and I especially didn’t like what put them together. Nevertheless, it's a fast pace and easy reading.

This is the fourth book of the series and by mistake I read it before the other three, but honestly it didn’t make much of a difference. It’s too bad that the reviews I read about the other books in the series were not much better than my review on this book. I had high hopes.

I was disappointed.

Really enjoyed this. Made me laugh out loud and cry as well. I did figure out the unspeakable secret (aka the plot twist keeping our couple apart) fairly quickly. The middle part of the book dragged a little bit as the hero was a bit of an idiot. I get it and the conflict did make me tear up but still ... star docked for that cause I really wanted to bash him over the head. Thankfully the heroine is cool and she forgives him.

Overall the giggles and tears added up to a very good read. Ms Quinn does it again.

Seemed like a good book until it became clear that this is an 'adult' novel. Thumbs down.

Even without the adult content, there was an unlikable tension, a whiney, childish "Does my husband not want me?" theme going on that just irked me.

2 1/2 stars. Sad ending to the otherwise very cute saga of the Smythe-Smith family. Ridiculous that it was 2/3 thru the book that the secret was finally revealed.
