I read a lot of popular health and nutrition books, and I’m usually pretty jaded about all of them, perhaps I’ve read too many. I found this book, though, had some solid takeaways, or maybe it was consistent with where I’m at already, and so I responded accordingly.

While I don’t think I’ll take on any of Shah’s actual recipes, I will act on a couple of her suggested courses of action as I am already on track: 1) I’ll continue to go to bed at the same time and rise with the sun and respect my circadian rhythms. 2) I think I’ll try intermittent fasting more deliberately. I already avoid eating after dinner and often spend twelve hours without eating, but I think I’ll make that more of a a plan. Yes, this book is asking me to examine some of my habits, which are fairly healthy right now overall, and it is asking me to make a plan. I will.

A “self-help” book based on evidence and science always piques my interest more than one based solely off of the experience of the author. I really enjoyed the first third of the book the most, with the review of the body’s intricate hormonal pathways. The actual plan that she has formulated is definitely doable, and easy to alter for different lifestyles and schedules. I became more conscious of what I am putting into and on my body, along with how much (or little) I move throughout the day. This book is clearly tailored more to a vegetarian lifestyle, with recipes and detailed meal plans included. While reading, I’ve worked to time my meals better, increase my vegetable intake, and seriously cut back on sugar and caffeine. I have to say, I’m noticeably less effing tired than I was 2 weeks ago.

Some great takeaways about attending to hormonal imbalance to feel less fatigued and stressed out. Lots of focus on sleep and nutrition. I switched from coffee to chai tea while reading, and I am enjoying the daily ritual of making her chai recipe.

I really related to this book! I thought it was great to learn more about hormones from a doctors perspective.

I found her very funny, and I liked her personal stories that she added in. She also went into detail on intermittent fasting.

I am hoping I can use some of the info I learned and apply it to my everyday life.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
