The islands of decolonial love were so clear and beautiful. A nuanced book of mixed poetry and prose. Still need to look up the audio files.

This book manages to say so much in each story with so few words. The love and heartbreak are palpable. I know I can’t ever really know, but I appreciated very much the tiny pinhole views into nishnaabeg life.
It was good.
I felt it similar to [b:Thunder Through My Veins: Memories of a Metis Childhood|1460945|Thunder Through My Veins Memories of a Metis Childhood|Gregory Scofield|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1183842125l/1460945._SY75_.jpg|1451786] and [b:Jonny Appleseed|37514017|Jonny Appleseed|Joshua Whitehead|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1514035743l/37514017._SX50_.jpg|59124667].
I didn't enjoy it as much as Thunder Through My Veins - that was one of my favorite ones.

Stylistically I didn't like reading this book because there was often no context or specification of who the speaker was. It was more so feelings and snippets of life like poetry than a cohesive story so it was hard to follow. But respects to Leanne for expressing her experience in Indigenous communities and with white people. I loved how animals were personified as well as Mississauga showing how the entities around us have personalities. Lots of literary devices but I probably wouldn't read again since it was confusing most of the time.

Really lovely collection of short stories and poems from the perspective of native/indigenous people about life, loneliness and love . Well written and lyrical.

I've recently discovered that short story collections aren't for me but this one is still great. There were some really great stories in here and I think if I re-read this a few times then I might understand it a little more as a whole.
A lovely, lyrical series of short stories about love, being Indigenous, connection and loneliness. Filled with great wit and gorgeous imagery.
