Just finsihed this one and I am disappointed. There is a huge thread of love sick triangle which gets in the way of a genuinely great story. Don't know if I will bother with the remaining books.
If you like love triangles and miscommunication this book is for you!

I love this series!! I will say this one dragged on the lovers quarrel/ love triangle for a little too long. Other than that loved it

This is a long book to read. It relies heavily in describing everything about the every days lives of Ayla and the lion hearth. I enjoyed the conversations among the characters, but the unending descriptions got tiring for sure.
It felt at points quite romance novel, which I guess it is, but with much more to offer.

Book 3 of 6 complete! Even though I felt frustrated at times by the certain relationships between the main characters (it seems that love triangles have been exasperating for eons, nothing's changed), I still feel enveloped by this series. I don't have many words. Onto the next!
It took me a little bit, but I finally finished The Mammoth Hunters by Jean M. Auel. This book was a lesson in frustration. In this book, Ayla and Jondalar were taken in by the Mamutoi tribe, the mammoth hunters. I loved the people in the Mamutoi tribe. That part of the book was thoroughly enjoyable. What was so frustrating was the fracture that occured between Jondalar and Ayla due to the advances of Ranec. It was like the Bella and Edward and Jacob love triangle only more frustrating. Just like Bella was clearly meant to be with Edward, Ayla was clearly meant to be with Jondalar. So, that left me frustrated. But, I loved the relationships Ayla developed and the conversion she made in the tribe. I loved Rydag (the boy like her son) and his story brought me to tears. There were some tricky sexual rules that left me a little surprised, but it was a completely different time. And, I don't know how much we know about pre-historic people, but I know Auel did a lot of research, so maybe these really were their rules back then. Anyway, I enjoyed this book and will move on to the next book to see what is in store for Ayla and Jondalar.
