Kicking myself for not having read this when I was 16.
The story wasn't new to me as I had watched the movie years ago and am only now getting around to reading the book. It felt very early 2000s in terms of writing style and the behavior of the characters (which isn't a bad thing at all).
I liked that each girl was different enough that people reading it could see themselves in at least one if not all of the girls. That being said, the relatability of the story fails when you have 4 girls who are clearly different sizes can magically fit into the same pair of jeans. I know it's a fictional story that some may categorize as realistic fiction, but the realism for me ends at the jeans.
I also felt that where the chapters ended and the POVs switched was a little disjointed and weird but overall the book was really good and I think it lends itself to be a relatable coming of age story.

I watched the movie and the book gave a few different perspectives. Bee's summer was my favorite and I always look forward to her turn. Their summer experiences were just fun to read. I loved their friendships and the diversity that completed them individually.
