Early teenage me reading
I loved the movie first, and then I read the book & loved it. It's very interesting insight into what it's like to be a teenage girl now, and it's not all that much different than being a teenage girl in the 80's. The toys now are just better! I liked all of the characters, but especially enjoyed reading about Lena.
I love this series. At 11 years old I picked up the first instalment of the sisterhood series and was enthralled by the lives of these 4 girls that I imagined they where my very own friends. Yes - some of the content in a little too much for an 11 year old but really I think that at 11 I was reading my mom's romance novels anyways! But overall Bridget, Lena, Tibby & Carmine proved to be the perfect remedy to a ton of long summers. Anyone past 14 ... maybe 16 may not be able to appreciate the idea of travelling pants and magic and how it all ties in to the bonds of friendship but those hot days on my deck reading the sisterhood of the travelling pants were some of my fondest summer memories.
Although it’s was hard to start reading it, the book eventually picked up to speed. For teens, it’s the prefect time to read the book. Beautiful scenery in Mexico and Greece, friends far part for the summer and issues ranging from parents remarried to a friend having leukemia.
