I have... feelings about this book. First time reading since I was a teenager, in preparation for discussing the series on a friend's podcast. I'll admit I did not feel any sadness or nostalgia leading my teenage years behind and perhaps don't remember them as well as others, but some of the stuff in this book must be taken to task.

I have a love/hate relationship with the characters throughout the story, and at the beginning I was not enjoying it as much as the previous books. However as the novel goes on the story develops and we meet new character, some I love and some not so much, and once again it is a great book. With a wonderful, thought provoking ending to a great series.

Nothing crazy in terms of writing here and the dad pissed me off but I like the pants idea

Such a heartwarming book of friendship. Quick and easy read.

I remember loving this series as a teen. Picking it up as an adult was like reconnecting with old friends. Each of these girls has such strong feelings and personalities.

I waited well into adulthood to read this and it's as good as my peers have always said. I had to break up listening to the last few chapters to prevent potential ugly crying.

Brashares writing young women in such a careful and conscientious way is a gift to us.
emotional lighthearted reflective fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes

reread this as my last read of the year. i love love loved the series in middle school and wanted to reread during some downtime. not sure how i would feel reading as an adult for the first time without the nostalgia. i would love to find a more adult novel that explores friendship the way this does

I'm not super surprised that this doesn't hold up to be as enjoyable of a read as it was when I was thirteen, but it was just so frustrating. Of the four main characters, I only found myself interested in two of them (Tibby and Bridget) , which means I spent half the book wanting to get back to those two. The perspective shifts between four characters is also just not that well done, as all four sections are still written similarly and fail to show very different thought processes despite how different all four characters are. I am, however, going to continue reading the series with the hope that the characters/writing get better over time.
