3.75 AVERAGE

My second time reading this and I still love this book and these girls. The experiences they go through over the course of one summer are funny, heartbreaking, and everything in between. The bond of their friendship is so strong that you almost feel a part of it too. Highly recommend for ages 13+

I don't understand the obsession with mediocre young adult fiction (I'm looking at you Meyer/von Ziegesar) when there's actually solid writing out there like the Traveling Pants books. I just re-read the whole series, and I'm sticking to the opinion that Brashares is brilliant at character-driven plots and internal dialogue.

Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn’t look all that great: they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they’re great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they’re fabulous. Lena decides that they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything) thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs, they decide to form a sisterhood and take the vow of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And then the journey of the pants — and the most memorable summer of their lives — begins.

I really loved this book. It took a little time to get started and I was beginning to think that it was just another fairly enjoyable teen book - but then it really got going, the characters were fleshed out and I fell in love with all of them. The characterisation was so good! The girls were so different but such complete personalities. Fantastic! I read it in one sitting! I was a bit doubtful about the speed of the postal service (especially to Santorini) but there are times when we just have to suspend belief a little :-)

Once you get past the chapter where they compliment each other on how good they each look in the magic pants, it gets pretty interesting. A look into the mind of a teenager.

Her parents used to talk about simplicity all the time, but nowadays they seemed to spend all their time getting new stuff and not having very much time to play with it.

As a parent, this book has an annoyingly accurate commentary on how kids start to see parent’s flaws.

There is a sexual encounter that doesn’t go well.

Loved it! It had its sad parts, but overall a very good book and I couldn't put it down. I read it almost all in one day. Lena and Bridget I think are my two favorites. I like Tibby because she goes through some hard times and doesn't feel like she is wanted in her family, but finds solace in her 3 best friends. Carmen is passionate and very smart. She seems to be very focused on arguments in this book.. don't know if she will be in the next one or not. we will see.... I liked Bridget alot because she went through such a drastic change and realized that life has a way of catching up with you and hit you head on when you least expect it to. But... out of all four Lena has to be my favorite.... such a shy person, likes her privacy, but her friends always come first for her at the drop of a hat she is there for them when they need it. Even if it is just to vent a frustrating day. She is scared to let love in but gives it a chance once, and finds it coming back to her in an unlikely place.

Would recommend to all my friends, or all those who have a group of diverse friends who mean as much to you as family~

I thought this book told an amazing tale of a bond between four friends. One part that made me cry my eyes out was when Bailey died form lukeimia and Tibby's heart just seemed to break into two. One thing I really liked about what the author did was, she told the story from four different girls perspective. And their names were Bridget (aka Bee), Carmen, Lena, and Tibby. The four best friends who discovered the magic pants. For anyone who's looking to read a truly amazing story, about four bestfriends and the bond they shared. Then you should read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

So hard to put down!

I read this series when i was around 14, so, sixteen years ago give or take a few (aouch). And back then, well, i thought it was ok. Dont know if it was the translation, my own insufferable 14 years old self or what, but i now have waaay more tenderness for that book. Guess i have to read the rest of the series.
