This is the first book I feel compelled to write a written review for. I picked it up at the store when I saw it and thought to myself "this looks fun!". That was the attitude I went into this book with, and it did not disappoint.
After reading so many HARSH reviews, I want to help create balance.
Anyone who perused the back cover before purchase should come to the realization that it is NOT a retelling or screenplay, and that it absolutely IS a type of fan fiction. It's my opinion that all the negative reviews due to this misunderstanding can be summarily disregarded.
That being said, I think it was cleverly written. Contrary to some other readers comments, the story does touch on the backgrounds of our beloved characters, it does have deeper story themes than the movie did, and the difference in events is very believable. I mean come on, the movie is simple enough for young children to enjoy across the ages, we can't hold this book up to the same standards as a complex adult love novel.
If you enjoyed the movie, as a child or as an adult, then you should have no trouble enjoying this story!
Good reading!

Aladdin is one of my favourite movies and it has one of my favourite characters ever - Genie. This book follows Aladdin but then it changes the story to what if .... what if Jafar killed the sultan and took over with the help of Genie? And what if Jasmine found street rats and fought him together with them? And won and became a Sultana?
The premise was fine, the book was just a bit too long for my liking and it had a lot of parts where nothing really happens - I did like to see a stronger and more developed Jasmine who is great at strategising and a great leader- but this book was okay... pretty forgettable and I thought that it would be better. Also Genie is barely in it - he still gets enslaved by Jafar, does a lot of bad things and is like: "eh can't help it he is my master after all and I have to do whatever he says" - he secretly helps Aladdin and Jasmin but is then tortured and at the end of the book he loses magic and he gets turned into a man making him super upset and sad because magic was who he was - and Jasmine and Aladdin still get married so that's fine. It's a book with a good idea but not that memorable and not something I would rush to pick up again.

This is a very good book, but I gave it three stars because it just isn't really the type of book that blows my mind. I would recommend a parent this book to give to their children or a kid in middle school to teach them about inflation and revolutions. The book is really good at showing that the villain's can have good motives, but go about them in a wrong way. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to one of my peers (being 16 years old) but I would definitely recommend it to my little sister (10 years old).
More like 2.5 stars. I just wasn’t that into the story. However, an interesting twist with some surprisingly brutal killings.

Another DNF, which is a shame because I was really looking forward to this one. I was listening to it and let the download expire twice. The beginning part is the movie. Exactly the movie. Then everything changes when Aladdin gives Jafar the lamp instead of dropping with it into the mouth of the cave. From there the story isn't bad, but it's not good either. Not much character development. It never drew me in enough to finish it.
I loved it! Very dark at times but still charming!
