A Whole New World - ⭐️⭐️.5
Cover: very normal, fits the story. Love the little foreshadowing in the ‘What if Aladdin had never found the lamp?’
Plot: well it starts off like the classic story we all know and love, but then it shifts when Jafar gets the lamp and we get thrown into the story. Aladdin wasn’t exactly my favorite Disney story to begin with, so I had trouble getting into this one. The concept is great, and the story is great too, but it’s just not for me.
Characters: not much to say here, they are who they are
Ending: satisfactory, even when I didn’t like the story that much.
Extra notes: while I did not like this book that much, I will 100% read the other books in the Twisted Tale series and I will recommend them to death. The concept is amazing and really puts things in a perspective no one thought of before.

This book was ok. It went on way too long, it could have been finished halfway through the book and not more then 300 pages of words. And I also hated the ending, it was stupid.
Not bad! I had my doubts at first since I don’t always gravitate towards YA retellings. But I enjoyed the second half!

I enjoyed the amount of overlap of plot points from the film, as well as the way the narrative deviated from the film due to the alternate premise.
The novel really dug into power and inequality.

Interesting ideas, nothing like the famous cartoon. A bit darker than expected. But the execution was not that great - nothing much happened in the middle. I quite liked the ending though. Glad I didn't DNF.
This was a really nostalgic book for me because Disney was and still is just a huge part of my life, I love it so much and I think this book gave me what I wanted as a child sometimes: Disney in book form. And I think the author did a fantastic job depicting Agrabah with everything from the food to the constellations! But what confused me was how juvenile the writing and plot seemed to be at times, and then just the full-on DARK stuff that would happen. Jafar is just... awful. But it confused me and was unexpected and I think if the writing and dialogue and overall plot in general was more complex, this could be a fantastic YA. But then again I don't think it could be Middle Grade either because of the twist. But I'm totally continuing with the series because I loved seeing more development and exploration of characters and worldbuilding, so I'll definitely be reading other books in this series!
